I decided to make this thread to share info on the Mexican built mavericks. I have always had a personal interest in these since i got into the Maverick world. And i have personally seen some of the differences first hand on my trips down there. I also keep notes everytime i heard anything about them here on this board. Luckily i speak Spanish as well and i've been able to keep contact with a few owners via e-mail.

If any of you have any info on these cars just add it to the thread. (y)

    Rear diferentials/ Transmission.

since there was a Dana plant in Mexico i wasn't surprised when a few owners told me that their cars had Dana 44's under them.

According to them they all had 3.01 gears.

    Vs's the US models that had 2.79 3.00 8's

Mexican Mavericks also had 8"s though, and i've seen plenty of those. I still haven't seen a picture of a dana44 equipped maverick though, its just been word of mouth so far.

there was also a TRAMEC (now Tremek) factory down there, that made the transmissions for these cars. And 4 speeds were an option along with 3 speed models:

theres the proof, It also shows proof of the "GT" option.

    Translation:

    Optional Options:
    Bucket Seats
    Three point seat belts
    Glovebox with key
Body Protection *im guessing it means the bumper guards*
    DR70x14 Raised lettered radials
    Body Moldings *trim*
    AM radio w/antenna
    4 Speed Transmission
Special Vinyl *im not sure what this means though*
    Special Sport Type
Aluminum Wheels and GT Type Graphics
    Canary *yellow* Color
    Leather Interior

this is the GT Stripe Package:

I believe there were two kinds, cause i've also seen this one:

(i have more pics of mavericks with this one, i just have to find them on my old hard drive)

    Taillights Dealer Options

Now this is interesting, here's some instances of mavericks with Comet taillights on them.

    Shelby de Mexico Maverick:

Random Mexican maverick (if you notice it still has a maverick tail panel, but with comet taillights)

and the other 99% of Mexican maverick that i've seen have had regular maverick taillights on them....

Again in this Dealer options brochure they show a Comet in the picture :hmmm:
you'll notice that there's some things that weren't available in the USDM mavericks.

Such as the gauge and the telescopic antenna.

    Bumpers Body Tag

Here's a 74 Mexican maverick with 73 USDM style bumpers on it, im guessing when Ford had to swap to the big bumpers they sent all the medium sized bumper inventory down there. Acording to a Mexican Maverick club the medium sized ones were also available in 75.
I have a ton of pictures of 75 models with them (y)

another thing that i've noticed is that mexican maverick's all had the metal body tag on the door.

    Radiators, Speedometers.

all the USDM maverick had radiators with the cap in the middle, but the Mexican ones seemed to have had an offset radiator cap. (i have a ton of pic of these also)

Scoubidou's Maverick GT from Brazil has odd ribbed rockers and no filler hole in the rear panel...

Im trying to keep this thread free of the Brazilian cars :D

    that's a whole nother story,

that car looks custom to me all the way....

No turn signal markers on the Brazilian cars (y)

All the Mexican cars seem to have had them.

Another Rumor that i've heard is that some Mexican maverick at the end of the production run got V6's.

in the Cuautitlan Izcalli Assembly plant :)

Some Mexican cars got 4 cylinders too. I read the Mexican blocks are also thicker and better suited for hopping up.

can you give me links to the 4 cyl mexican maverick info ? :hmmm:

Ive never heard that before...in brazil yes, but not in Mexico.

And your referring to the Hecho En mexico 302 Block. I also didn't want to get into that in this thread, Since those blocks were available in the USDM mavericks and comets as well.... Some of you might have one and not even know about it :)

Thanks for the pictures Maverick75, keep them coming as you find them.

It would be nice to see a picture of a Mexican Maverick/Comet with the Shelby style Mustang GT 500, or CobraII tail spoiler on it too.

I could swear I saw one in a video on YouTube a few years ago. Not sure if it was just a hand-made reproduction like an old camero ducktail, or if it originally came from Shelby de Mexico supply.
