ive been trying to replace my break light switch on my 71 comet, it came off in 10 seconds, NOW i cant get the damn new one on, what a bear it is. is there a simple way to put it back on? the plastic bushing is a little worn but ok, i just cant seem to get back together with the steering column in the way- the cheapest part is always the hardest one to get back on lol so far an hour and scraped knuckles no luck

It is easier for me to squat down outside the car instead of climbing inside the car. To install the switch, position the switch, pushrod, and bushing and washers on the brake pedal pin and press the hairpin retainer into place.

the plastic sleeve bushing is getting tattered, hanging up the switch asembley, does ford stock these bushings as old as they are they are pretty common on alot of older fords fords

You don't need the plastic bushing for the brake light switch to work. If your set on having one...try a Mustang Vendor

Since you haven't mentioned it, I'm guessing that you don't have clutch pedal also in the way .... that made me invent a few new bad words ... :biglaugh:... makes you lose your mind after a while ... you can't look at it and touch it at the same time ... one or the other ... stupid tight in there.

Never replaced the brake light switch in my automatic Comet, but my first one, that was a stick car, went through three switches in 5 years.... ... of course ...... Probably would be easier if you take the clutch pedal out, but I was pretty young and never figured that one out back then.
