I looking to convert to disc brakes on the front of a 71 Maverick. Does anyone know who makes a conversion kit?? Can I use a kit for another model (mustang, ect)?
Bill, the most economical way is to go to a junk yard and get these following parts of a 70's manual disc break Ford Granada. 1.Front disc break spindles 2. rotors if in good shape. 3. The disc break proportion valve get new calipers. get a new master cylinder. Get new wheel bearings and rotors Get new break lines (the flexable ones). Search the Technical forum where there is more detailed info on this fairly easy swap. It can be done in an afternoon. I think the cost for mine was about 300 bucks..thats with brand new rotors. There is a full conversion kit in auto krafters parts book for about 945 bucks.
Thanks Mark. I'm going to check with Wilwood and Areospace also. The car is a 10 second drag car so I want to upgrade from EOM rotors and calipers. The Granada spindle helps a lot.
BILL BARR what part number are you going to be using for wilwood? And when you get them will you be using the Granada spindle with that appication?
Mav Man, I haven't got a hold of Wilwood (holidays), but they don't list a maverick application on their web site (who does?). I did get a hold of a company called Stainless Steel Brake that does make a conversion kit using your own Maverick spindles. The guy said they work as long as you have 5 bolt wheels. The kit is about $950. We are not ready to start this project yet so I'm going to do some more research.
Try this use Wilwood kit for a 69 Mustang. the Maverick and 69 Mustang use drum brake spindle. The kit cost is $639.99$http://www.martelbros.com/cgi-bin/store/ws400CS.cgi?store=WIL&category=wilwood/66.htm&cart_id=1021129074701965&page=wilwood/wilwood.htm Maverick

Yes I have seen the Stainless Steel Brake kit that you talk about... my buddy put that on his mustang with the Granada spindels.... however I wanted to go at least a over kill of 12-1/2 inch rotor. I was really looking to get some Brembo becuse of the connection I have there but they just tell me let us know what you need... but have no idea what to use on a Maverick. I know Tom H told me to make an adapter plate on the stock spindel but just wanna make sure I get the right rotor and would be better if I didnt have to make an adapter plate. But if you get any part number that you know works i'd be intrested in getting it. But thanks for the info guys as well.
