To my knowledge maverick were only made between 70-77 so could someone please explaine what a 69 1/2 maverick is????
The new Maverick was introduced in April of '69. It's kind of like the 64 1/2 Mustang, a mid-year introduction. I believe all of the '69 model Mavericks had the ignition switch on the dash like Mustangs did until '70. Seth
They had a couple differences I believe, including the ignition. I can't think of the others right now though...gas tank I think?
ohh i did not know this i have read countless sites that said 70 was the first year of the maverick. i guess they need to get there story straight.how rare is a 69 1/2?
Officially, it was a 1970 Maverick, but unofficially its a considered a 1969.5 Maverick as it differed sligtly from the Mavericks built later on in the 1970 model year. Some differences were in the suspension(used Falcon parts) and interior like the ignition switch and I believe it had a unique steering wheel.
69.5 versus 1970 69.5s had lighter duty front end parts ignition on dash smaller transmission tunnel shocks were not staggered most came with 7.5 inch rear end
These were common to all 70 Mavericks. I guess I dont think they are that rare, because I junked one and have 1 in the garage that I'm cutting up.
Up until last year I had owned 5 mavs in my time and by luck or or unluck every one of them was a 70 and 2 (including the one I'm driving now) were 69.5s. I thought it was cool to have the ignition switch on the dash but I didn't know about the trans tunnel. I thought that they all had that make a preacher cuss lack of space. I have a 73 now but it is not here, but it gives me something to look forward to when I start messing with it.
I have a 70 that was manufactured in August 1969. It has the straight shock set-up and the drop in Gas tank but does not have the ignition on the dash. I really would have liked the ignition on the dash but that is what ford is all about (Change, Change & more Change)
I have a '69.5, and it has the drop in tank, ignition in-dash, a very narrow tunnel (no AOD for me), and those damn straight shocks. Mine was built in June 1969. Also, the engine compartment was black, and had a 170 straight six.
Mine was built on 28 May 1969. The other difference is a horn ring like a Falcon. Mine is broken off but the pad for the ring is still there. It has a cutout on each side to accomidate the ring. Also has a black engine compartment. I drive it every day.
This thread is a year old, but... I'm still waiting on the history report for the one I'm getting to see when it was made. I believe the firewall in mine was yellow and the inner fenders and shock towers were black. I'll be going to pick the car up at the start of next week and I'll put a ton of pictures in a link in my signature when I get it. Mine will be a semi-daily driver. I'll drive it when I'm not working on it, but I have another car as a permanent daily driver. I still think someone ought to do a registry for 69.5's.
