Has anyone removed the dash in a Trailblazer before? Any hidden screws/bolts? Any tips or tricks?
I suspect it is a dead mouse. My wife left peanut butter crackers in the glovebox and recently discovered the package had been chewed. I set a trap on the floorboard but he was sneaky. His luck I think ran out when the ac was used but not sure.. I just know it reaks :vomito:and I will need to begin disassembling the dash. I am thinking he's in the evap box :(

Gene, the heater blower is the most likely place for him to be. Should not be hard to get to the motor and remove it. Then you can look around and find him. Yes it is one of the horrible smells on earth, a dead mouse or rat. YUCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. The heater motor should be easy to take out, most of the new ones just have a tab that you pull down and turn it counter clockwise about a 1/16th of a turn and it falls out. If it isn't that kind then probably three 7mm screws hold it in.
Good luck my friend, when you are done they make a spray that you can get from the dealership that will get the smell out of the box. It is used for evap cores that are moldy and smell.

Thanks. I'll be looking into it tomorrow. I took the cowl cover off and looked into the fresh air intake and could see almost all of the top of the blower. Poor design I think. Anything can creep into the ac system through there. The dumb service manager at our (closed down) Chevrolet dealership once told my wife to ALWAYS shut the ac off before shutting the vehicle off. She had a blend door actuator motor or something go out while it was under warranty.. Anyway, I always told her he was talking out his other cheeks. But she insisted on doing as he said.. I watched that fresh air door stay closed when we put it on recirculate air and shut the vehicle off.. THAT is what should be done since it leaves it open to the cabin oteherwise..

If you goto our community Chilton source, there are some good pics under Instrument Panel R&R. You can also usually find good pics under stuff like Heater Core R&R, Evap Core R&R, etc.

    Good luck, buddy!

Took a bunch of stuff off without going into the dash removal stage. Looked into the blower area as far as I could. I could see the one side of the evap. I see a little mold but not a mouse :hmmm:.. I took all the panels I could off and looked as far as I could all over.. Nada.. We are going to see if her insurance will cover it.. I doubt it but we'll see. I have too much to do to be messing with a dash removal. Hell, If I can't get to putting the Comet dash in why am I gonna mess with this one?
