Which line is the return line, drivers or passenger side? My trans cooler instructions say "for maximum cooling, install the cooler on the return line in-series with the original radiator cooler".

I was originally going to just eliminate the radiator cooler all together, but these instructions say you should only do that if there is something wrong with the original cooler, other wise run it in-series. What do you guys think?

I think if you just unhooked them and the one that squirted would tell you everything you wanted to know. I dont know enuff about auto trans to even begin to comment so I will quit wasting your time. But just thought I would let you know the quickest way to identify the lines.

Believe me Dan, in the end this car is definately not going to be an automatic trans.

Anyone? Day light's runnin' short and I'd kinda' like to get this done before dark. :)

Not exactly wanting to spew my trans fluid all over the place to find out.

The rear line on the tranny is the return line

Why would you want to run it through the radiator cooler??? The radiator runs around 180 degrees. I know all my Broncos that came with tow package all used external coolers only. Just curious. Like Dan, I'm a stick banger.

water conducts heat much better that air. even though the water is at 180 the trans temp is much higher. it seems that it should cool faster than the add-on external cooler. i think the small add-on type are to help boost the cooling, thats why they say put it on the return side.. i'm not a technical guru, this just seems to make sense.

I never run them in series.
    I run external ones only.
I mount them in front of the radiator so the electric fan pulls air across it and the radiator.
Like said above... it runs 180 degrees at the radiator.
To me, having it "air cool" thru the line to the cooler and having air blow across it would cool better than hot water.
    Just my 2 cents.
Never had a problem just running external coolers.

The purpose for running it through the radiator is for cold weather operating conditions. The radiator warms the tranny fluid up more quickly and the external cooler obviously keeps it from getting too hot...

Well I ran it in series and it works great. In fact I think it may have dropped my temps a little to much. It runs about 175-180 around town now and about 185 on the interstate. This trans cooler isn't small by any stretch of the imagination. I bought the biggest one I could get. I can't remember off the top of my head how big it is, but I have it on the front of the radiator and it has about an inch and a half clearence all the way around it.

You can see it clearly though the front grill of the car, some ricer kid asked me if it was an intercooler. :biglaugh: :rofl2:

I really need longer rubber hoses, it only came with about 2 foot of hose and I'm not happy with how I had to run them.

Mine is inline, small size and temps stay at 14o-150*. Not a daily driver though..

Get you some metal line, bend it to fit, and then connect it with rubber hose. Less chance of leakage and you won't have to fish it thru all those bends/holes, etc to redo them if they go bad. Just the short little pieces.
As for it dropping to much, do you have a transmission temp gauge? Just curious.
Because adding on a cooler like that for the tranny shouldn't drop the motor temp.

I do not have a transmission temp gauge yet. I'm going by the engine temp gauge and it definately did drop the engine temp which was strange to me, I figgured it would have raised the engine temp some because of the transmission cooler blocking air flow to the radiator somewhat.
