Took on a couple of projects today on the 1974 Maverick ...

    1. Got the 1977 Duraspark ignition installed and working.

    2. Removed the EGR carb plate and installed the non-EGR plate on the intake.

    3. Modified a 1977 carb to work with the non-EGR plate. The bolts are closer on the non-EGR plate. Only problem is now I don't have any gaskets that fit the carb so I need to get some 1970 250 6-cylinder carb gaskets. I used some copper gasket maker to get it running.

    4. Removed all the vacuum hoses that looked like I don't need anymore. I left one for the distributor and one for the A/C. Looks like there is already a hard line going to the C4 so I didn't mess with that.

The car runs fine if I hold down the accellerator pedal ... It will not idle at all. Perhaps without true carb gaskets its got to much of a vaccuum leak. Also the PCV hose is dry rotted so that may be leaking as well ...

I try to keep a sheet of gasket material around for those times when you don't have or can't get a gasket. Just make an outline on the material and cut to fit with a razor knife.

I used all the original Duraspark harnesses and distributor from a 77 Maverick. I found a tip on a website saying to use the Throttle Solenoid Connector for power ....

I don't drive the car in the rain so I don't use the wipers or the washers so removing the tank was no big deal ...

ford84stepside, where do you get these sheets of gasket material? I could have used something like that several times now...

Nobody had the gaskets in stock .. guess there ain't many requests for 1970 Ford 250 carb gaskets. I ordered them and also bought a sheet of gasket material. Got the carb sealed up and put on a new PCV hose ... runs great now ..

Ditto whats above. I get mine at the local parts store, comes in differnt thickness from paper thin to card board thick. I just get about a foot or so off of the roll when I buy it. Last time I used it was to make a side cover gasket on a Kawasaki 4 wheeler, worked like a charm, stopped a massive oil leak from around the cover.

They had the rolls at Advance Auto ... $5 for about a 2 foot roll .. about 1 foot wide. They just had two types ... the typical rubbery paper or cork ...

My local guy stocks about 4 thickness in the paper and 2 or 3 in the cork. He also stocks semi parts so that may be why he has a bigger selection.
