Got a 71 Mustang Console today .. (good idea Seth!) and it looks pretty good. I need a bigger boot or a GM style cover for the shifter hole. I was hoping the Maverick consollete clock-delete insert would be the same size as the Mustang but looks like the Mustang clock was larger. I am thinking of a way to dress of up the rear of the console where it just kinda ends under the front package tray.
The front... ...DM, I have a triple gauge bezel hanging from under the dash to 'cover' up that sudden ending. I am going to shave a bit off of the very back of mine to make it sit down flush. Mine has a slight gap in the middle. Why don't you hook up your clock? Supposedly having a jeweler install quartz movement is the way to go on vintage clocks. Seth
Clock would be cool .. but since I keep the battery disconnected I would always be resetting it. Plus I needed something to do with this NOS Maverick Consollet block-off plate I had. I bought some of the metal-foil stuff to do my door panels and applied it to the Maverick Logo on the block-off plate to make it stand out. Here is how the shifter is supposed to look in the console. Also - here is the original Mustang block off plate ... P.S. There are guys on the board with nicer Mavericks and Comets than me ... but I am trying .... Seth .. you have a picture of the triple guage setup?
Get a clock that has a seperate battery. The clock idea sounds like it would fit the bill, have one custom made if need be by a jewler or clock smith.
Here's another view ... I have it in with masking tape until I make a larger plate to mount it properly ....
DM- I will snap a pic for you this weekend, don't think that I will be back to the garage b4 then. Seth
I think it looks much better without the clock. Love the emblem trick; looks like it's supposed to be like that...
Did some research ... Here is the correct shifter boot ... not available in reproduction ... Hopefully the 70 style boot works .... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2485345615 Actually that last picture I posted looks pretty much like a standard Maverick Consolette ..
Console Mod. I put that console in my first '74 Maverick Grabber in 1980. I used the Mustang clock and glued the word Maverick on the end of the console. My car was an autmatic and the shifter fit that hole perfectly. You may need to use a larger boot mabe from a newer car to fill the hole. You could also move you gauge cluster to the back of the console behind the clock. It would look awsome at nite when lite up! I had an 8 track tape deck mounted under the dash just to the right of the radio untill 1983! I love you car!! The Maverick I have now has a perfect deluxe interior with a bench seat that will stay that way. If it would have been ware out I would have changed it
