I also am goint to change my wife 74 mav from a 200 to a 250 is there electronic parts available for this motor. It will be a daily driver. Thanks for your help. Isn't the pertronix something you can just drop into the existing distributor, or am I thinking of something else...?

I saw a small box that you pull the points out, and replace with this little box. I will see if I can find where that was and put it up here, unless it is the Pertronix everyone is talking about.

Yea Scott, that's the Pertronix. I am running the Duraspark II ignition and am extreamly happy with it. It gives you a little hotter spark and retards the ignition autmatically when turning the motor over which makes the car start very easily when it's hot. I got all my parts from the junk yard.

You really can't go wrong with either. The Pertronix is easiest to install. The Duraspark II you gotta replace your distributor, mount the module somewhere under the hood and then wire it up. It's still not really hard though. I could convert a car to Duraspark in less then 30 minutes with all the parts in hand.

OK guys, I always ask this...Jegs or Summitt part numbers, please?

I have found a couple, but they are Jeg's off-brand or non-pertronix, but likely the same thing. price?

My points are new, and work fine, but I know how they are...

    Jeg's part # 751-1281
    Summit # PNX-1281
That's for the original Ignitor unit. Double check with the companies to make sure the numbers are up to date. Sometimes they change numbers in newer catalogs.

What I can see is the hei will be at least 200 bills, the pertronix will be 100 at most. For the application I want I believe this is the way I will go. Dean
