I found this part number on a website as the part number for a 1976 Maverick Fuel Sending Unit. d7tz-9275-d I put this part number in at "MAC's Antique Auto Parts" and it comes back as Gas Tank Sending Unit USED WITH AFT-AXLE STEEL TANK F100 - F350 More importantly it is IN STOCK Can anyone confirm the part number, if so we may have found a source for our sending units.
The T in the part number indicates it's a '76 truck part. '71-'75 Mavericks use the same sending unit part number which is D1DF 9275-A. If the part number ends with AA then this indicates the part comes with the gasket. D5DF is the replacement part number. '76-'77 Maverick/Granada call for a D6DF 9275 part number. The retaining ring and gasket are 1960 part numbers and these parts fit about everything from 1960 through 1979 (or later). I don’t have any truck part catalogs so I can't help you there. I got a new sending unit with my replacment tank from Rock Auto. I sure most any sending unit will work if you bend the arm to the correct angle and if don't mind if the fuel line at the unit is a different angle. I have a '60 Falcon, '69 Mustang and '74 Maverick sending unit and that's all I see different between the three.
Thanks for the info Jeff - guess that website was wrong. Okay, got someone at AutoKrafters to talk to me about the sending unit. the 71-77 gas tank is really a 76 -77 gas tank, but they advertise it as a 71-77 gas tank as it will fit a 71 - 74 Maverick. The real 71 -74 tank was only 16 gallons, while the 76 -77 is a 19 gallon tank. The 71-74 sending unit will work in a 76 -77 tank, but due to the increased size of the tank, the fuel pick up will not reach the bottom of the tank, thus it will not pick up the last 2 or 3 gallons of gas in the tank. Option 1 - You can weld on an extention to the pick up line of the '74 unit. You will have access to the gas, but your gas gauge will still register empty at the 3 gallon mark. Option 2 - Install '74 unit and just live with 3 gallons of gas always in your tank that you can never use. Option 3 - install a universal sending unit and replace your gas gauge with a new one that works with the universal unit. Option 4 - clean the existing 76 unit and change the filter/sock.
Option 5: Do the Mustang tank conversion, get the matching sending unit, and have lots of room for the left side dual exhaust.
LOL, I used option #5 and yes almost 5 inches of space for the exhaust on either side of the tank.... and my fuel Gage is accurate.....
Too Late. I already have the fuel tank. But in the event I decide to return it. What year Mustang tank are you adding. I looked for availability of a 76 tank and it is as rare as the sending unit for the Mav
I got a sending unit off a 74. It was exactly the same as my 75 unit, same angle and everything. And my 75 tank was the same as the 76 one that i replaced it with.
Don't recall what year Mustang tank I used. See http://mmb.maverick.to/showthread.php?t=35490&highlight=tank for good info on that swap. I also bought the later Maverick tank first but resold it to a member here and bought the Mustang tank. Glad I did.
