There were a couple of questions on another thread about what the COMET GT Registry is. The intent is to gather enough information on what is believed to be legitimate 1971-1975 COMET GT's to calculate statistics, facts and figures on options, features, build numbers etc. As of today I have less than 100 entries in the entry. That low number does not warrant any printing or publishing. Many other classic car registry guides have hundreds or thousands of entries. I would need quite a few more entries prior to doing any printing. Some of what I have learned has been from the info provided by the owner's submitting copies of their Marti reports with build stats. The Marti Reports have only been valid up to '73 to date. What have I learned thus far from compiling less than 100 '71-'75 COMET GT's? The majority of the entries are from '71 & '72, and the leading original color was 'Bright Red'. 90+% of my entries originally came with the 302(5.0)V8. More than 50% came with automatic trannies. In order to add a car to the registry I need/would like: 1-Owner contact info; name, address, phone (not necessary for junkyard finds-yes, I put those in too) 2-VIN 3-Door data tag info from blue tag in driver's door jamb 4-Photos are nice 5-Condition description including listing modifications-motor, tranny, rearend. 6-Any interesting info: salvage title? Race or unusual history (mine started life as a rental car) Many registries such as the '69-'70 Boss 302 Registry are valuable to help someone determine value-ie: a car that was salvaged, rebuilt etc. That is why I like to add junked or parted out cars. Thanks for taking the time to ask. Gene, I know that you were going to send me the info on your car at one time. I don't have the registry on this computer. I will check on it. Columbus, I don't believe I have yours listed. Anyone who wants their car added, see the needed info above and e-mail it to me at the address below. Thanks- Seth Roberts redcometgt@aol.com
Seth ... you should include a section for Authentication Documentation ... that way if the owner has the original paperwork or Marti Report the car is 100% authenticated and that can be included in the car information. I'm sure that not only are there GT clones out there ... but ratty Comet's that are actual GT's but not obvious if the hood was removed or the car repainted.
Mine was in a junk yard. The title was never a salvage cause the car was actualy stolen and I found it. I contacted the owner and bought it...long story filled with crooked people and cops and all. Time to do a Marti search I guess.
Seth, I sent you the info on my '72 GT. I never got confirmation of receipt. I also later requested some additional statistics on '72's. What I asked for was the following, # of '72's in the registry, # of red '72's, and red '72's with white interior. I never got a response. Would you mind sharing that info with me either here, a pm, or email at coutangman@bellsouth.net Thank you in advance. Jim
Dan- To date I have only gotten Marti reports-no original invoices or reproduction invoices. Jim- I have 15 '72 GT's with VIN data in the registry. The number of Red GT's (all years) is 10 with VIN info. I have pics and some e-bay details of other cars, but no VIN info. This registry is and will continue to be a work in progress. I cannot state any stats with such a small number of entries. The only statements that I would make at this point is that there are more '71-'72 GT's being submitted, and that Bright Red is leading in the color department. Jim- Your car is the only of your color combo for your year at this point. That does not mean that your car is any more unique, or odd than others. It does not mean that it is NOT unique either! Thanks for the inquiry. Seth redcometgt@aol.com
Seth, Just sent you an e-mail on my 71 GT. Included copy of the Marti Report and some photos of it's current state. My uncle had a Comp Blue 71 Comet GT when I was little. His car was totaled and sent of to the crusher. It was 302, 3spd on floor. Those were some good days spent with him riding around in that car. He passed away at 28 yrs old from cancer back in 86 when I was little. My car is going to be a tribute to him. - Matt
