    How much do they charge you for a set?

    They overcharge us a lot here in California, $75 for a pair(not including taxes,core charges, environmental charges and entry fees.)

    My cousin stayed in GA for a year and I couldn't believe the low prices he told me.

    for anyone doing this for the first time...
    once you remove...calipers, rotors and the cover on the housing all that is removed inside is...one bolt (8mmhead), push center pin out towards cover opening. then push axles towards the center section, remove C-clips from axle...

    the reason for this info...
    Jeff and I were through pulling the 4 sets of brackets when we ran into 3 guys that were trying to pull an axle from a Crown Vic. they said they had been there 2 hours trying to get the center pin out. they had removed the calipers, rotors, cover and 8mm bolt but the pin wouldn't come out. they even used a hammer to try and knock it out.
    Jeff slid under the car to see what was going on...they had removed the carrier bearing caps...this let everything fall down and wedged the pin.
    the car beside them was one of the 4 cars we had gotten the disc brackets from. we told them they were in luck that the axles setting there were the ones they were looking for...they set their axle beside one of them and said..."they look the same but they came from a different car than ours."
    when we left they were still under the car trying to knock the pin out...:slap:

    One more for first timers and old timers!

    Here is the one little thing that will derail your efforts to get a set of brakes off of any 8.8" rearend whether it be in a car or truck....

    The pinion shaft lock bolt/pin!

    This is the FIRST thing you want to see if you can get out. Pop the rear cover, use an 8mm SIX POINT WRENCH otherwise you will probably round off the head...and sockets just don't fit! I had to go buy this wrench special after I left the yard with nothing, because my wrenches weren't working. The factory loc-tites these in place....so they don't just pop loose!

    Refering to the picture, if you don't get the entire piece out as shown, but only a short 1/2" threaded section, pack up your tools and go to the next car and try your luck there. I had to leave a beautiful set of brakes on a car the other day.....because of this.

    If you have the rearend out of a car, have a gas wrench (cutting torch) or a sawzall, then of course you can cut the axle tubes and axles and take things apart the hard way. OR you spend 45 minutes with a drill, drilling out the cast iron of the center gear spool, to get the rest of the pin out. Either way, it's ugly!

    This should save you some time and aggravation! Remember, this is supposed to be easy!!!

    Frank & Jeff- Quite the haul!!! All you need in that picture is you guys sittin' 'top your tool boxes with a big smile! ala deer or duck huntin'.....

    It is much easier to have two people do this job....just because you can work in parallel with each other. Once you remove that pinion lock bolt, and the c-clips, one guy on each side of the car makes quick effort at stripping the parts down! My son and I got it down to about 25-30 minutes to do the job! Only take out the tools you need, lay them out and then go! Took me about 45 minutes to an hour the other day, but then I think I'm slowing down!!!

    I use a hammer and a 8mm hardened bleeder screw wrench. Put the wrench on the bolt and give it a whack with the hammer and it almost always pops free.

    It also helps if you hold the carrier with a 19mm or 3/4" wrench on one of the ring gear bolts while doing this.

    Those prices in GA are great!!!

    We need to be shopping on a half price day to get close to those prices!

    Looks about like $70-80 depending on how nit-picky they get at the cash register for brake shoes (ebrake), pads, and springs and small bits!

    About $100-125 here on a normal day. They hit us for core charges on everything.....and then hope you never bring anything back!
