just went on a 260 mile quick trip after I have gotten my 74 mav running good. Got 29 mpg!!! Average 70 mph on the interstate. 74 mav, 200CI I6, no A/C
I went on a 160 mile trip last weekend with my Comet and averaged 26 mpg with a 302 and a 5 speed with 3.89 gears at 65 mph .Derek.
I get 25-26 hwy out of my 250. High teens to low 20's around town depending on traffic. C4 trans with no kickdown and mild shift kit, 2.79:1 rear, Duraspark II conversion with TFI coil. Hopeing to get high 20's to low 30's highway out of my '69 1/2.
Ok, what am I doing wrong. 16-18 mpg at 70 mph on a 250, c4, 2.79 gears in my 71 Grabber. About 20 mpg at 70-75 on a hot 200, 2 bbl, Isky 262 cam, 5 speed, 2.79 rear in a '63 Ranchero.
I have found that haveing a good strong ignition system (not points!), well tuned carburetor and fine tuned timeing works wonders. Also, tires that are properly inflated and not too wide. I also replace my PCV valve and spark plugs every 10,000 miles and shine up the contacts of the distributor cap and rotor with scotchbrite. Driving style also has EVERYTHING to do with economy.
.7 miles to the gallon and luv it! In the PINK one The yellow one gets terrible mileage, but I know why....carb is junk. I am hoping to get around 20 mpg when I put the new motor in it.
29 mph 257 miles, 9 gallons to refill the tank. I think my calculator is working fine. oh, and I have a 1bbl. carb.
I wish i had those numbers...when i rev up the mav i can actualy watch the gauge go downGood thing this isnt going to be a daily driver
I still dont buy it. When my Sprint was new it had a 200 with a 3 speed and 3:00 gears. The best I ever got was around 24. Unless your filling up until your spilling out of the filler tube. You have no way to know if your adding the same amount of fuel each time. 257/9=28.5 You still need that calculator. And all Maverick 6 cyls came with a 1bbl carb.
Found this intresting: http://fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=27243 Seems gas mileage for 6 cylinders is all over the place. Looks like mid 20's is about average for a 6 cylinder on the interstate.
