i have a standard 302 block and a 302 boss crank. i was wondering if the boss crank is any different from a regular 302 other than the boss crank being steel. also will the boss crank fit into the standard 302 block without any mods

    Idea!

IF that is a real B2 crank, and it is not beyond say .010/.010, I'd sell it and put the money towards an aftermarket crank. That is, if you are looking for a crank to stand up to abuse.

Yes the boss crank will work without any mods in a non Boss block.

I Had one ...it was .30/.30 and was Cracked, which I made clear in my ebay
    auction.

Someone STILL bid it up to $68.00...SOLD!

Absolutely...a good B302 crank will bring $500 or better by itself.

If you're just wanting 302" inches (stock stroke) just use a stock iron crank.

You'll break the block before the crank...

Maybe there is something on their website that will help ID it.

you would think with all the "boss 302s" that came in the mavericks that they would be "a dime a dozen". :D :biglaugh: :biglaugh: ...frank...:bouncy:

A Boss crank will have cast in DOZ part number on one of the throws - also being a Forged Crank- it will have 2 parting lines or seams on the throws versus one on a iron crank.
If your application calls for high RPMs up to 6800 , I would keep the Boss crank and run it. A good aftermarket piece would cost as much as the Boss Crank`s Value and in my opinion would be not be as good or reliable. Most are manufactured off- shore from inferior steel. I have run Boss cranks for years in high RPM race applications and have never broken one - they are strong ! Boss Rods on the other hand can be a weak link at prolonged and varied RPMs and loads.

I don't remember the order they were in, but I believe only the 69 was crossdrilled.
The 70 and 71 (service parts) were not.

    Trivia:
There were actually quite a few differences in the 69 B302 and the 70 and 71 dated stuff. Just about everything in that engine can be had dated 71 due to the need to keep repair parts cast and on hand. Other than the date, they are the same as 70 production parts. So if you see 71 parts, know it was a service part because the car was not produced past 70.

the BOSS 302 markings are D0ZE-A or TFE-8. thats a rare find and they are very scarce crankshaft indeed and very valuable to restore's.it's design for 4 bolt mains and in my opinion and whats the point of puting it in a 2 bolt block and destroying such a rare piece !!!! I would sell it and buy a short block stroker engine assembly for the money you can make off it(if its the real deal)!!!!!!! I know this is an old thread just posting the casting number ..........!!!!
