Okay, I am very interested in this statement. Global West arms I am familiar with, but I have not heard of anyone trying the Tacoma rack swap. How does it measure out for rack travel? Will turn radius be even close? Tighter than stock? Wider than stock? What about pivot points on the rack as compared to the pivot points on the original linkage? Am I even posting this in the correct forum? This is a followup post to the Import motor thread. I am curious as I drive a '97 Tacoma for a daily driver and like the steering feel but not the turning radius which is larger than an F150.
Does this rack steer the spindles from the forward or rearward position? Or does it matter? I would like a rack swap that operates behind the spindles so the stock suspension, oil pan, and off the shelf headers can be used. Dave
Patience grasshoppers. It is not a bolt in deal. I just didn't want to spend 2k plus. Will it work. I will tell you when I'm done which could be a while. I don't expect to make the round up this year, but I do plan getting my car redone the way I want. It may lead into early 07 before it is done. It comes down to time and money. I have little of both The rack should be done soon. Pre-measurements look good. It is a rear steer rack. Outer tie rods may have to be custom made but I got machinist buddies for that.
I thought you meant Tacoma Surf Racks, I got a set for sale if you want them. Won't help with turning, though.
You and I are on the same page here. If someone would just come up with a bolt on rack and pinion setup for these cars at a reasonable price, I think they would sell tons of them. I look at it from a daily driver point of view, but I think about everyone could benefit from something like that.
This winter I promise I will make a Rack and Pinion work with these cars. I am in the process of acquiring a welder from Dave(maverickgrabber) as we speak so I don't have to lug the one from work home to do this.
Yea If you read my replt earlier in this thread you will see that I am on track. I said late 2006 early 2007 before I get this done.
