Hello all and good day! I made a post yesterday to try and figure out what my 72 maverick is worth. Here was the post 1972 mavrick 302 V8 2c "Hello all , I am trying to get an idea what a 1972 Ford maverick is worth . It has a 302 V8 2c engine ,64,000 original miles and factroy AC . It is in close to mint condition .The interior is original and close to mint ! Original paint /no rust and has been gargaged for the last 10 years . Thanks head of time for any help ! Prezz" A neighbor next door who is a car buff said the reason the car was more valuable was that it was a BOSS 302 .....is this true ? Thanks, Prezz ( Pete )
very seriously doubt that as no mavericks came with a boss engine. if it's a 2 barrel it's also not a boss motor. they did come with a 302. which makes it worth more than a 6. value is dependent on a lot of things. condition, rust?, 2dr/4dr, options, etc. very hard to tell without pictures.
Sorry to blow your gasket but no mavericks were offered with the boss motor. Also 1970 was the last year the boss 302 was offered and that was in mustangs.
Didn't some Dealerships do conversion to the BOSS 302? I'm pretty sure I've heard that was done, in a different thread. But I personal have never seen a Maverick with a BOSS 302. I've seen it with just about everything else though! LOL
I keep hearing about the BOSS 302, but what exactly is the difference(s) between our 302 and the BOSS?
Boss 302 was a 4 bolt main block with a forged crank, rods and about 10 1/2 to 1 compression. It had cleveland style heads with large ports and canted valves. Also used a solid lifter cam. Was used in mustangs and cougar eliminators in 69 and 70.
I have heard/seen of one maverick with a 302 Boss. The boss does not fit without either notching the shock towers or using the blue wrench and BFH to "modify" the original contours of the towers. So, I too doubt that this is a Boss car.
I never knew the BOSS was a completely different engine...I just figured it was a different intake and carb, maybe higher compression pistions, just possibly some better heads....
Is your car a Grabber or Sprint model? Is it auto or manual? Column or floor shift? Buckets or bench seat? Interior and exterior color? A lot more info is needed for an honest evaluation.
I'm pretty sure David Poteat did not notch the shock towers when he put a boss 302 in his Maverick. I'll have to go back and look at the article again... Prezz, I hope you don't feel ganged up on about the BOSS. Your neighbor may be a car buff, but he is probably mistaken about the BOSS. We hear that alot, still have yet to see an actual BOSS 302 in one of them.
Mavaholic ! It's NOT a Grabber ....must be a sprint.(God, I sound ignorant) It has bench seats and a column (automatic trans) shifter, dark green paint with a tan (black trim on the seats ) interior. Maverick Matt !!! I don't feel ganged-up upon at all . I am amazed of the rapid reply to my post and all the opinions and help . My "car buff" friend says "boss" is stamped on the engine and is going to show me, hopefully tonight and I will get back with you all ASAP . Thanks for your aid and interest ! Prezz (Pete) I WILL POST PICTURES OF THE CAR AND ENGINE ASAP ! I don't have a digital camera but my friend does .
Here is a Boss 302. Notice the rectangular valve covers, same as used on the 351C-351M and the 400 .In fact you can put Cleveland heads on a regular 302 and use a Boss intake to make what is called a Clevor (Cleveland-Windsor).The water passages must be modified but it can and is done.A lot of trouble but some people do it.
