I just ran across an artical in an old Hot Rod mag.(July 1979).'72 Mavrick w/a 427 top-loader 4spd,5:14 gear, drums f/r ,weight2607,3mpg ,10.79@123mph in qtr. mile, cost $11,000. It can be done.Just thought it was interesting. 10 sec. times with Mavrick DRUMS! Owners name:Nick Zuk,Wayne MI
I know a guy running 10's with drums all around He is not the smartest fellow in the world, but his car is pretty fast. And, I think if you spent your money right you could get 10's for $11,000.
you'd have to do all the work yourself. i know that's supposed to be 1979 but 10.79 at 123mph. little short on the top end if you ask me. bet with a good set of todays heads and technology that would be more like 145. that's taking into consideration with todays tire etc, he'd also be in the hi 8's -low 9's.
427 Maverick Yes, that car is for real! I know Nick Zuk, I work with him at Ford Motor Co. Wayne Assembly. Nick is a very talented guy and woeks on the new car model launch team! Nick has many fine Ford show cars that he built. One is a street rod named "the alian" UFO theme car that has made the Magazines! He also has a very fast 1979 Pinto crusing wagon with a 5.0! The car looks bone stock! Hit the gas and its good by!! Nick loves his Maverick and has no plans to sell. I see him at some of the local shows. We both won a trophy at the last one. Nick likes my car to and allways teases me about installing a big block! I just laugh saying a 310HP 302 is more then enough for me! Some how, he allways gets the last laugh! Joe
See if you can get some new Pics of his cars and post them. Maybe you can get some shots of both yours and his Maverick together.
Wow, if that car is still around, someone should let Hot Rod know. Maybe they would do a retro article on it or a 'now and then' type feature! Dave Btw: We would definately love pics. Either now, then, or both!
Its good to know that Nick and the Mavrick are still around.I too would like to see an update. At the time he also had a '67427 Fairlane and a '69 Boss 429 mustang. The artical also states 14.0:1 pistons,34" ladder bars. The car was called Midnight Express.Anyway good to here they are still around! Old Fords never die.How about those other Fast Fords? 10.79@123mph did not sound that great to me either but with all that weight up front and a basicly stock chassis I bet it was a handful.
Nick Zuk I dont know if Nick still has all the car he mentioned in that article, but I will find out. I know he still has the Maverick, the Mustang II, Fairmont 460V8 and some street rods. I will ask to take some pictures and post them here along with an interview about him. Maby he will want to do it himself. We work at Ford but the Plant is down for tempoary layoff so I will call him and see what I can do. I need to learn how to post pictures. Ive tryed before but they say the file is to large. Time to learn. Joe
