this must be one of the stupidest things yall have heard, but dont blame me. I was home one day and my mav had no gas since ive never filled it up. I went to the backyard and saw a little gas container. I looked at it, opened and pured some out. Smelled like gas alright! thats what i thought:mad: I put it into the gar, it was about a gallon or less and you know the car started. The next day i turned on the car and after a while it just sputtered and died. When i pushed the gas evenn a little it turned off. I put in another three gallons of gas, and it still sputtered and died. My dad then told that the gas container I got (the one taht had less than a gallon) had gas mixed with oil!!!!!!! he and my uncle told me that the gas filter had probably clogged up with oil. What do I do??? Can it be that the filter is clogged and is it easy to change it? should I have a mechanic do it? is it easy???? thanks!!!!!

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
the filter is really easy to change and cost less than 3 dollars(should be on the carb)

i'm guessing that gas/oil mixture was ment for a weedwacker or lawnmower

also some fuel pumps have a filter and their is another filter in the gas tank(fuel sender)

I put 2 stroke gas in my car once and didn't notice any diffrence in the way it ran. I have a hard time believeing the oil in the gas is your problem, especially as dilluted as it is now.

my neighbor had an el camino that the fuel pump went out on. he was towing a small boat. they got the outboard motor gas tank that was mixed with oil and ran the hose into the carburetor and drove the car with 1 guy pumping all the way home. i think it was about 60 miles and it didn't hurt it. i'd try to change the filter. it may have been on the verge of needing to be changed anyway.:)

    Oil in the gas?

Someone here accidently put diesel in their car once. Maybe they can tell you where to look for a clog.

I agree with Jamie....There is more than likely something other than a little oil in your gas. If your car seldom sees a full tank, your problem is probably a dirty fuel system (have the tank, lines flushed and filter(s) changed

Man, what an instant classic that thread was. :rofl2: :biglaugh: Going back now and rereading it, I can't help but start laughing when I read where Dan starts questioning why his brand new engine runs the same as his messed up old one did. But then he figgures out it was Diesel after he put a new engine in the car. Dennis goes "Damn Dan, I dont think I can say anything to make you feel better, but at least the problem is solved." it brings a tear to my eye. :biglaugh:

I remember when he was talking about selling the '74 to buy a new engine for the Grabber. It definatey wouldn't have been so funny then. :(
