Went Pull-A-Partin' today. Walked through the cash for clunkers area in disgust at all the nice looking late model cars that were needlessly destroyed (there was an '02 Mountaineer there that looked totally mint). Plenty of crappy late 90's 4.0 V6 Exploders. Then it happened, I spotted one with a 5.0 in it. Sure enough, the engine was still complete, only thing missing was the idle air bypass. Walked away with the entire GT40 intake setup and fuel rails for 74 bucks. :thumbs2: And it's the earlier, more desirable 95-96 intake to boot.

Too bad the rest of the engine was destroyed, it was clean and low mileage. They wouldn't even let me buy the GT40 heads off of it.

    Great buy Jamie!!! :thumbs2:

I agree about the used cars. I think they should have had a junker for clunkers program. They could have gotten some "REAL" clunkers off the road if they would have allowed people that have real junkers to come in and trade their junker for a clunker. thereby destroying vehicles that really did need to be gotten off the road. We see those cars everyday. There are people out there that desperately need decent transportation that probably could have come up with $500 or so, traded in their junker and drove away in some of these nicer vehicles, and the govt could have gotten about $200,000,000 (based on 400,000 cars at average of $500) of our taxpayer money back. We have 43 clunker trade-ins as of this past Friday. I saw about 5 that looked like junkers. I wouldn't have a problem driving any of the remaining 38. Oh well, it ain't gonna happen. I might as well get over it. :(

You don't even want to get me started on this. With my job, I am on car lots and junk yard lots everyday. I see these cars and it just gets me FUMING!!

Example: 2005 Ford Explorer XLT. 130,000 miles. Absolutely MINT inside and out. Even had NEW tires on it. Wholesale value: $7500. Here it sets....motor blown to bits. Hood is up from where I popped the hood and looked at the motor. I could post hundreds of examples of this.

Ray is exactly right. But that wouldn't give any kickback to the unions. So we get to pay Billions of Dollars for somebody else's new cars, the unions get a kickback, the Dems get campaign funds, the enviromentasist wackos see polluting SUV's taken off the road, everybody's happy, right? NOT!

I've been looking for an Explorer just like that for my wife at a decent price. What a waste! I'd driven that one for three or four years before it was worn out.

But due to the confines of the program, you can't get the block, heads, or any internals of the engine, they have to be destroyed. This cuts the yards out of 60% of the profit made on a junker. Just shows how smart the politicians really are. Another govt program that costs US money, while screwing us at the same time. And they think they can run healthcare? But thats another story for another thread.

Congats on the deal, Jamie. Hope you get that screamer together soon!

WOW- all this crap is scary- i imagine this is soon headed to Canada once our "leaders" start counting the money that can be made in the hope it will force all of us to buy new cars - after all we all have $50,000 kicking around in hidden bank accounts. Whoooopie.:16suspect
