Will a 69/70 dash out of a mustang fit in a 72 comet? I think it would give my comet a little style in the interior. Sorry I do like the original dash but it's too common and I want to be different. I know of a company that does custom instrument cluster that would look great in it. I need to know if the dash would be too short/long, wide/ narrow or if it would fit. If anyone ever tried to do this please help. I would like to put the full 69/70 dash with the console into the comet but don't want to buy the parts and find out that it was a waste of time and money because it wouldn't work. I thank you in advance for your help.

Anything can work if you have the desire to make it work but its not going to be a bolt in deal. Since the Mustangs are wider than the Maverick, the dash will be wider too.

Thanks. :bananaman I guess I'm gonna have to get the dash and see where I can shorten it. The 69/70 mustang dash would finish "the look" I'm going for. I was going to have the dash redone in white so it doesn't matter that now I have to shorten it. Sorry I hate having the same stuff as everyone else. If everyone did the same thing this world would be boring.

I have contemplated this same thing a long time ago.
I saw a pic from a magazine from the early 70s that had a 69.5 Maverick with a 69 Mustang dash. It was nice and fit well.
I got a 69 dash assembly (junk, just for measuring), and the width is the same.
Looked pretty straight forward, but it would not be bolt in by any means.

Thanks. (y) Is the 69 mustang dash different from the 70 or are they the same? If they are the same then thats great. I found a pic in a magazine of a dash that I like and it says its a 70 mustang.

69 and 70 are nearly identical.
The 69 uses a dash mounted ignition switch, while the 70 has the key switch in the column.
There might also be very slight differences in woodgrain options and such, but I am not that up on it.

I put a 69 dash in the mav to test fit it last night it would work but will need some modifications. The windshield contour is off about 2 inches at the center and it is a bit wider on the bottom than the door frames but can be squeezed into place without much effort. I will take some pics this weekend and post for all to see the difference.

Could you hybrid the metal window contour portion of our dash to the Stang pad?
    Just a thought.
    Would love to see pics.
It has been 15 years since I stuck (half hearted test fit) the Stang dash in one of my Mavs, so I don't remember squat.

Thanx for the pics. (y) From looking at the pics it seems there isn't too much I'd have to do to put one in my comet gt. You guys are very helpful.

..of course you could put an '80 Thunderbird dash in your Mav...but then you wouldn't be different, since I already did it....:)

Well, I think the '69/'70 Mustang deluxe interior is the nicest of any car. In '70 they moved the ignition switch from the dash to the steering column so you could lock the wheel in off position. The cigar lighter was moved to where the ignition switch was. It was in the center console if equiped in '69. I have a '69 Mach 1. I know a guy that changed his '70 Mach 1 dash to a '70 Cougar dash. The lower half is the same as a Mustang. That would look interesting in your Maverick to. People used to tease me about the interior of my Maverick when it was new. They said it looked cheap. The Grabber should at least have a full guage insterment cluster. I added a tach but, I like the way it looks. Thats what makes it a Maverick. I would love to see a picture of your car when its done. Joe
