Ok, its been done before so its not a big deal, but A true working convertible would be in my opinion, the ultimate. I've been a ragtop guy my entire life. Its been too long since I had one, the last being a 67 Mustang. I bought a 66 mustang, rusted out shell for $200. At first I was thinking of rebuilding the mustang chassis and reskinning it with Maverick sheet metal. The problem with this is the mustang has a 6" longer wheelbase and is about 2" wider than the Maverick. It is also flatter across the top surfaces. After a lengthly discussion with Nick, he said I shoud just put the top off the mustang, into the maverick. Problem there is the maverick windshield is wider than the mustang at the base, but narrower at the top. I really didnt want to reengineer the folding top. So I decided to take the whole top and windshield off as an assembly and graft it into the Maverick. I welded a bunch of braces to keep it all in place and then cut it out as a complete assembly. I think one of the biggest issues to deal with will be the side windows. But I think I got a solution to that. The first couple of pictures is all the bracing that was added to keep everything aligned.

This picture is what I did to the rest of the chassis. Man that new plasma cutter is awsome.

THese last 2 pictures are of the assembly I extracted out of the mustang. I still need to trim off the door jams. Next step will be to bring in my sacrificial virgin (69.5) and do some quick bracing before I cut the top off and see what its going to take to make it work. If all goes well, I will junk the 69.5 and make my 71 the convertible.

Wow Dennis. Quite an ambitious project. From what I've seen of your other work, "it's been done before" won't apply to this one.
    P.S. - I want your shop.

The fastest way to be stomped to death and the Good Lord told that you died naturally, is to mess with my sister's '67 Mustang convertible.:smash:

She'll beat you to where your Mama couldn't recognize you.:tsk:
