im going to redo all the wiring in my mav after painting to prevent any wire problems. i found a site that makes custom wiring harness if any one else wants to know.i e-mailed them and this is what i got:

We have three models for your Ford powered application.

Our 'RETRO' has 12 fuses for $249.99 which is a completely different
    design
then our normal fuse panels. Two of the fuses are select a fuses. The
    BARE
BONZ has 10 fused circuits for more simple installations for cars w/o
    AC, PW
etc. It runs $329.99 .The EXPRESS has 18 circuits that can handle
    anything
you throw at it for $399.99. We build for GM, Ford and Mopar powered
vehicles. Four of the fuses are select a fuses. These models are 12
    volt
    only

Choose which model you want to start with and then we make it for the
components in your application. We'd like to know what engine,
    alternator,
distributor, steering column either stock or modified. We can then
    custom
fit to your needs rather than a universal kit for the same money. The
    fuse
panels will have connections for the typical connections like A/C,
    P/W's,
and other common "needs" like radio, wipers, P/L's, and all the toys

The RETRO is built more like a replacement harness with the components
    in
more fixed locations as to where the fuse box is under the left side of
    the
dash like a stock car would be. The EXPRESS and BARE BONZ have
    excellent
flexibility if you want to move the fuse box and other components
    around to
    better locations. .

The RETRO is a wrapped style harness that is for the cost conscious
    buyer.
Simple Color coded instructions are standard. You can nearly stand back
    and
throw it in. The BARE BONZ and EXPRESS have a polished stainless steel
    fuse
panels with excellent accessibility and upgrades made very easy.

The BARE BONZ or RETRO would be great assuming you will not add a whole
    lot
of accessories. The EXPRESS is the best model to replace most factory
    wiring
with normal accessories in cars and trucks after 1970's. All three come
    with
a serial number for us to track your purchase in case you have question
    in
the future. It also adds value to your project as we support the
    system
even to subsequent owners. As with all of our products, the wiring
    kits
    come 100% Quality assured.

If I can answer any more questions, please let me know. Remember we are
    the
only wiring company where not only do you know the owner's name but you
    can
contact me anytime. We are available 8:30-4:30 Eastern thru 5:30 AM-
    1:30
PM Pacific US time for your questions or orders 800-292-1940

Go to this link for a Photo of the RETRO your application may be
    slightly
    different. ->

    help
fit your application as well as possible.

Sounds like a pretty good kit...lot less expensive than one I saw from Painless.

Thats cheaper than I thought it would be. Rewiring a car is pretty major and I doubt it will be a simple swap. I hope you have good electrical skills.

Not to jump in but I just bought a 26 circiut system for $150 from EZ2wire. From what I have seen it has very good instructions for the light switch, starter switch, and colum.

I've wired a few street rods, and from what I've done, Painless kits are well worth the money.
