Been awhile but heres the latest pics on the project dirtcar. Racing season has ended so time to get back after it. pic 1 shows the frame connector installed its 2x2 .125 wall it extends from inside the rocker box along the frame stock frame rail through the floor and stops just in front of the leaf spring access hole, the kickout attaches to the rocker box and the leaf string mounting structor w/ a hole drilled to attach the main hoop. pic 2 shows not much left of the original car the rearend is a 9" nascar floater, i widened it for my application. pic 3 shows the rail extension to the rear more 2x2 with another piece attaching the stock rail in, ive left the stock trunk hinges to save work pic 4 thought somebody would like a pic of a maverick missing the front clip, i plan to extend the rails up through the front clip picking up streering and suspension mounts along the way pic 5 i had to kick the frame rail over 2" to get some more clearence but worth it, couple notes here the leaf spring is a Camaro leaf, got some urethane bushings for them and will trim on the lathe to fit the Maverick opening, the shock is a (PRO) 7" racing shock, ive got the adaptor ordered to fit into the stock lower mounting hole, might be an alternative for you drag racers, i'll probably use 9" shocks to allow more wheel travel. I have a tendency not to stay inside the box. Amazing what fits in a Maverick just dont tell anybody i put chevy parts in my ford!
looking good. lot of work to go through just to beat up your car. i remember when i brought out a new car. not a dent in the body. man, i shoulda painted a bullseye on it. circle track is definitely a lot of work and a lot of fun. good luck.
Oh yeah, my real love of racing, was in the dirt. Would still like to do it but age and technology, are prohibiting it. Don is right, lot's of work but a "whole lot of fun".
