Hello from Finland Been reading this forum for 1,5 year, since I got my Mav. It´s a ´70, 302 and c4, candy red (old faded), black wide steel wheels. The body is sound, technically I have attended nearly everything. It is in use about every other day (I walk to work). My other Ford is a ´34 tudor, flathead and rodded. The question: The road noise is loud, like a cheap riceburner. Comes mainly from front of car. The door seals seems to be ok. But the rubber insulators on top if the coils are missing. Is it worth it to put them there. The front end does not need other work yet. I have had a couple of Falcons (61 and 68) and a Fairlane, and they did not have road noise. All had (has) radial tires. Any suggestions?
Why oh why didn't You post sooner,I'v could have meet up with You while I was over there for 10 days, maybe next trip.
Those insulator for the top of the coils are the same as the early Mustangs so you can get them from any Mustang supply house. What kind of carpet do you have? if you have el'cheapo stuff with little or no padding you will get alot of road noise. Also if the headliner is replaced and there was no insulation in the overhead you will get alot of road noise too.
noise Yes I have thick mats, and felt insulation, and the headliner is original. But I wonder if it is worth it to install the insulators (which I have got), on top of the coils. The noise is like a leak from the front, but where to look. But of course now the car sounds very modern!!?? I am soon taking out the 34 so I will have some time to go thru the mav. And Tom or anyone else, if you come to Helsinki, feel free to contact me, but please som week before.
