Hello, in reading the posts on VIN numbers, dash removal, and buck body tags, there are references to the VIN number being stamped on the top of the drivers side inner fender. Is it under the outer fender mounting (bolt) flange? If so, is it forward of or rearward of the shock tower? Finally, can the inner fender be easily removed. Thanks for any help!

I cant remember seeing a VIN on the inner fender, but cant say I ever really looked. The inner fender is spot welded and is integral to the entire front end, much like the radiator core support is.

On our 77' Maverick there is a Vin# stamped on the top of the drivers side inner fender in front of the shock tower. Here's a picture of some patches I welded in and in the lower right hand corner you can just see part of the Vin#.

Its not really on the fender, its on the top of the drivers apron where the fender bolts to it.

Now I know why I have never seen the VIN there, every car I have taken apart has been rusted there. I will look at my grabber next time I am out in my garage, I have it in pieces.

My buddies 75 had it on the passenger side apron under the fender ahead of the shock tower.

Yep, it's on both sides. With any luck it hasn't rusted away. If one side can't be read, you can try the other.
