    Locking Hood Latch Conversion.

Got tired of people opening the hood every time we went into a store or junkyard so we figured out how to convert the non-locking latch on the falcon into a locking type using just the cable off a late 70 Ranchero.

I'm working on converting the one on my mav also i measured it and i need a cable at least 92 inches long. All the cars I've measured aren't that long but next time i go to a JY I'm going to measure the truck ones.

The mods not hard at all you just have to cut a lever and attach the cable. The only problem on our cars is that the latch is on the hood not the grill support, I think I can figure it out though.

wow, you must have some pretty ballsy people in your part of the world.

just touching someone's ride is a good way to have your day ruined around here

good luck on the project though

well it took me all of two minutes to figure it out. Now i have to find a cable that will work with it.My dad has 3 cars(maxima,240dBenz,Surburban) in the backyard, that he's not using i'm going to see if one of their cables works.

I came across a '77 Maverick a while back that had what appeared to be a factory hood release inside.

never seen that(maybe some one put it on), the only different things i saw on a 77 was the fuse box location and parking brake.

Well its been almost 2 years and my setup is still working! I forgot about finding a long enough cable, my extension has been working fine but it would be nice to find a correct lenght. I just have to make a mental note to actually measure cables when i go junkyarding. And as far as i know im the only person who has done this with a factory latch :) the only other person with a locking latch is Thack but he had to convert a granada one. He also stated that it was very hard work. My method is easy as pie, just need to find a cable that is the right lenght. Anywho im bumping this for those who are interested in it.
