    Mav pics 72 project

    NEW PHOTOS ADDED. FINALLY.

Some pics of my 72. Originally a Texas car. Was rust free but full of dents and dings. Was original paint except front clip. Still had dealer sticker on trunk lid. Jordan Ford San Antonio. Spent a year at work in the body shop. Still need to take current pics. This is some of what I have.

Its back together now. Just have to finish off some trim and interior in the Spring. Blacked out the grill and the headlamp surrounds. I almost cried when I saw the shell in paint. It was a long year trying to get the car done at work and still make a living. Thank god for our body shop guys and our great painter. I learned a lot about body and paint. Its more work than I ever imagined. Even though I work as a tech next door to these guys I still had no idea how much is involved in taking a job like this from start to finish. All panels that came off were sent out and dipped. They came back 100% rust free without a pinhole. Apart from all the dents they looked like the day Ford stamped them. I'll get some current pics soon.

    Updated pics.

Finally no body parts left to put on. YAHOOOOOO!!! A big thanks to my 2 daughters that helped out Sunday(and numerous other times) getting the front together. I had a lot of fun teaching them about the car on assembly. We didnt even chip anything. Phewwwww.

Yep me to. Had a Mav i built from 3 cars in high school with a killer 302, 3500 stall and 4:11's. What a blast to eat those big block Chevy guys with a Maverick and a 20 year old kid. It only made it to primer. Couldnt afford paint. It sat in the garage for years then I finally parted it out. Biggest mistake I ever made. So here we are almost 20 years since the first one and I finally got my Grabber Blue paint. Must have known I would get another. I saved the Hurst ratchet shifter and all the hardware in the garage for 15 years. It was pretty cool putting it in the new car. Mid life crisis I guess.:)

That car looked really solid to begin with ... what a sweetie!

I really like the way the air cleaner seals to the hood. Did you do that? ... if so, what did you use?

The original car looked better in the pics than up close. The dents dont show in the pics. If I could I would have left it as is. Too many dents and touch ups. Roof had hail damage. No rust though thats why i bought it.
The ram air was on it. Some crazy went and cut the hood and made up the breather. It seals good but the rubber is too stiff and rubs the hood. Trimming off half of it and installing sponge seal this Spring.
