any ever removed the drip rail completely from the maverick? Kinda wanna grind mine off... bad idea? I just don't like the way they look, especially if I want to do quarter window scoops in the future.
I believe Tom Hackman (THACK) did it to his Maverick. You can search his user name or search by subject
I am going to get rid of the rain gutters on my car as well. Since the roof is welded to the rest of the body structure at this joint, you need to cut a section, then weld it up. Then cut another section and weld and so on and so forth. Here are the down sides. 1. The top of the door opening is inboard of the car, so if it is raining and you open the door, any water running off the roof will land on your left leg. 2. The water will run off the roof down the side of the car, over the windows, which will obscure your visibility when you're stopped. You shouldn't have any problem with water running into the car with windows up and doors closed though. If you wanted to be really cool, you could cut 2 strips out of the roof and weld in shallow rain channels similar to a late model car.
I like the thinking there. Modify them dont just lose them. You could also run 1/4 inch ridge, possibly mave from a strip of metal bent a 60 degrees, down the length of the roof on either side. I beleive they have something similar in nascar only for a different purpose. I hate my drip rails, they rust every vehicle Ive ever owned. Good thing my roof is rusted/poorly repaired around the winshield and I will have to be modifying it soon. Then I can go wild on my metal works.
