In 1969 my great granny ordered a new Maverick. She rarely drove it and as I became older, I would help my dad take care of the car. She lived 50 miles away so about once every 2 weeks we would go visit. We would usually take the car up the road and sometimes clean it up. When was 15...she was well into her 80s and she gave me the car.....1983'ish. It had 6000 (yes 6000) on it. That's the good. The bad is that the right side of the car had taken a pounding (her driving skills had deteriorated and she side swiped the support pole in the garage a few times) and the heater core was pouring. The first thing I did was fix the heater core and install some Mach 1 wheels via adapters. Then we worked out the rt side of the car and painted it. I also added a Grabber grill....and that was my high school ride till I ended up with a 1968 Mustang GT. After high school I got married and the car became my wifes. I had the lt blue Mav repainted a 70 Chevelle color...GM code 28 if I remember correctly. We showed the car a little (though not really a showcar). I took it to the PFCA Expos in Columbus several times. Then we divorced and the Maverick was showing 20000 miles. I kept it in the garage and drove it rarely. I moved years ago and my new house only has 2 bays. I have my 64 Cyclone drag car in one bay and my Shelby'ized 68 Mustang (long story but it was built out of a wrecked Shelby around 1972) in the other. The sad thing is that my little 36000 mile 70 Maverick has really gone down neglected outside for 10 years. Rust has started to come up in the lower qtrs. I think mice have chewed up some of the wiring. Paint is popping off the roof and truck. I'm hoping to get inspired. Here's some pics: In high school...all stock with Mustang wheels and a Grabber grill Later on with a Grabber rear spoiler and a repaint 10 years ago. Wimbleton white with a Grabber hood I added.....but it soon rusted out bad across the frt lip Here's the latest pic I have...she's hiding there in the background And this is another Maverick I had. A big bumper Mav I swapped little bumpers onto. I didn't keep this car long....the paint turned out really slick and I found a buyer soon. I think I've had 4 Mavericks over the years.
Welcome to the center of the Maverick/Comet universe...If this place doesnt inspire you...I'm sorry, your deceased. Enjoy!!!
Thanks guys. I am known to be somewhat of a forum junkie. I am a member of the HAMB, Shelby Forums, and the BTK Kawasaki forum. Glad to be a part of this one. I have had alot of experience with Mavericks and other Fords so maybe I can participate some.
