Since my bumpers are not chrome, I have decided to paint them the same as the body color. My car was repainted by the PO. Its red. Not sure what shade of red,but Krylon "Gloss Banner Red" is a very good match. Here is the front bumper sanded and primered. Then painted red. I have to fix lots of chips in the valance or skirt or whatever the thing between the bumper and the grill is called. I will post more once the bumper is attached. You can see the silver painted bumper in my avatar.

The mav is gone but i'm still here!
Looks nice (y) and the filler piece between the grille and bumper is called a stone guard. I like them painted black it flows nicely with the black grille.

It looks good. I have chrome bumpers and my husband has painted bumpers that match the body color. I will be curious to see your bumper on since my car is red also and I was wondering what it would look like with red bumpers. My bumpers are in good condition so I wouldn't paint them but Mike is wanting chrome bumpers and we have thought about swapping them. I just don't know how it would look. His look good on his car but I just haven't been able to picture red bumpers.

    Rear Colored Bumper

The rear bumper is finally done. Gotta fix the larger sagging gap on the right.

Body color looks much better than black I think. Good job. Gives it a more modern look.

body color does look better than black, but silver looks better than both. im just not a fan of painted bumpers (unless they're silver of course to overcome the cost of rechroming)...

    looks good though (y)

The first colored bumpers I did were on my 72 comet back in 1983. At that time I had the chrome stripped at a chrome shop. You would not believe all the flaws that get filled with silver solder prior to plating. I had a few hours in preping for paint. My question is are you guys stripping these or are you just sanding or blasting them? I had always thought that paint wouldn't hold well to a plated surface even if it was sanded or media blasted. It would be nice to know how you are doing them these days. I'd like to avoid all the BS that I had to do back in 83 again if i could get the same results

    Thanks

Back in 1984 I had my bumpers sand blasted, primed and painted. Still look good although I will probably go with chrome bumpers when the car gets redone.

I like them both ways....really depends on the car for me. I went with body color due to price and fiberglass bumpers; I would not have mine any other way after seeing the finished result. But like everything else, its a personal preference.
