I went to a show sponsored by the NorthCentral Mustang Club Aug.1.
It is a great venue in the Park, lots of shade not hot asphalt to bake u all day long.
There were appx 700 Ford vechicles there, near Kankakee, IL. 60 miles from downtown Chicago; forty or so from me.
I was dissapointed in seeing one vechicle of our vintage 70-77. I was driving that vechicle.
I will admit that it was basically a Mustang Show but Stangs were abt 70 -75 percent of attendees. So do the math -175 to abt 200 non-Stangs.
I saw Edsels(2), Mustang II's, Pintos, Comet's 1960's and just abt everthing else that was made w/ the Blue Oval attached. There were some great lookin iron there.

Im not sure how much advertising the event was done, but some must have been done to get that kind of turn-out for a one day event, even w/ entry fee of $20.00 @ gate and $10.00 pre registered. I was a $10.00 attende -they packed them in.
I must admit the wx was great - lower 80's and low humidity.
I think I discovered it by lookin on the web. I'll try to post some pic's later on after I finish my chores/honeydo's.

Anyway, I wud like to have seen at least a few more of our cars there.
Where are u guys hiding? Those who live in this part of the country can't enjoy the cars in the winter - SO - WHAT'S UP?
The Stanger's come out no matter what.
Come on guys>>> As I have heard several preachers say to their flocks:
    AM I HERE BY MYSELF.

:) Yeah, it's the same way here in Utah just me and I'm not entering the shows, I think I missed the bulk of this year’s cars shows being as my car was having it's problems throughout July. Your car is beautiful I’ve always loved the Comet GT’s especially red.

Well JN, I can understand it in areas where the population/car density is not nearly what the density in a major metro region in Chicagoland area where we're talkin millions of folks.
I was just disappointed to see just my Comet/Mav lineage. What else can I say.
BTW - my car still needs some exterior work. The interior almost done except dash cap and either recovering orig seats or installing 02 Stang seats permanently. I am leaning toward recovering originals.
Im working on the mechanical now and cosmetics when I have the reliability and safety to the standard I feel confident with - Im getting close...

get used to it :) its not that often at a open show that you see more than 1 or 2 of our cars. Its kinda cool cause you get alot of attention, but it would be nice to have a few, birds of a feather. :bouncy:
if your not at a mav/com specific event (like the MCG GATHERING) what you have experienced will be the rule.

I can see it at "as u say open shows". I think we cud do a little better at Ford specific shows. U think Mav's not seen very often - When is the last time u seen 2 Edsels at a show and one being a 2dr wagon. Im sure there are a lots of our cars out there that never make it to gatherings like the MCG OR ROUNDUP because of distance to travel, cost, etc., but cud easily make to local/region events. I went to the ROUNDUP - did'nt take the car cuz did'nt feel like driving 600RT mi in a car w/o AC in 90+ temps. If I had a trailer and truck I wud have certainly taken it. Three hundred miles is abt all I wud want to drive a 2900 car that was'nt really designed for long distance travel in mind. Thanks for ur opinion. (y)

    your welcome :thumbs2:
but its not really an opinion, being in this for over 10 years, its proven fact. I know Carlisle gets a good turnout and when the Hahn boys have a meet at the SOMERNITE's cruise they have had 10+ cars. I went to a mustang cruise in last year and there was 4 mav/coms there. But other than that, round-up or gathering or the dixie stampede is when you see more than 1 or 2.
I agree with you, you know there is more out there and it would be great to get a good turn out for any kind of show other than "specific" meets. But its the way it is.
The mav/com world needs more motivated folks like you in it!!!

I remember when I first went to the Carlisle All Ford Nationals for an MCCI Regional Mini-Meet. I believe there were about 20 Mavericks/Comets there. Every year since there has been about 14-20 Mavericks/Comets there. Weather plays a factor as well with Carlisle. :D

I hosted/atteneded some MCCI Regional Mini-Meets at Norwalk Raceway Park in Norwalk, OH. I remember one year we had 22 Mavericks/Comets!!

Now....I would say the economy has a lot to do with it.

Even 20+ years ago, I'd take my white Grabber to a Ford show, and you might get 2-3 other Mavericks & Comets..maybe...

:) that was my point. I hope no one thought I was trying to argue with the mojo just stating what I have seen and been apart of.

I agree w/ what u guys are sayin for the most part. By me being a new comer to the Mav world I can't argue w/ reality. I wud not think the economy has a lot to do with events less than 50 miles esp.., a one day event and Blue Oval specific. The economy did'nt deter the Stanger's I have respect for them - thou I know we pale in numbers compared to them. They were lineup almost as far as the eye cud see.
I suppose Im expecting too much - I just feel out of close to 700 Fords one 70's Comet is pitiful.

They are just one of those cars, everyone had one..but hardly anyone kept them. They just didn't last either, plus Ford was kinda holding them back from being a real powerhouse against the Mustang. Mavericks outsold Mustangs, but just imagine how they would have sold with a 351 4 speed...
2 of the 3 of my cars where lady's cars, that they bought new. I'm pretty sure that's why they survived as long as they did before I got a hold of them.

I do think the economy has an effect. I have been a regular car show attendee for the last 25 years. Even the local car shows are down as far as attendance, as well as all the BIG shows. It will come back...it always has.
