Be patient...Have an extra set of hands handy...Some penetrating oil... And some colorful vocabulary to help pass the time. It's not too bad as long as all the fasteners unscrew.

    Thanks,
Colorful vocab is a given...It's right under the master brake lines so already hard to get to.:bs:
I'm thinking raise the front wheels, turn the wheel to expose and remove the bottom fasteners 1st then the top and replace in reverse order. I'm no mechanic but I think I can do this.

How about "Don't move the steering wheel between the time the old one is out and the new one is in"?? Or is that too obvious?:D

Yeah you're right. Take into consideration this is all new to me, but I'm not afraid to try it. I've messed up easier tasks so I need to look at a little closer at this one.:yup:

    Rag Joint

Bump. There's nothing in my chilton's guide on this one. I removed the master cylinder for better access but I'm not convinced on how I should tackle this. Does the steering gear box have to come out?

You should be able to slide the collar up and down to get the old rag joint out and the new one in. There are pinch blots and reliefs in the shaft that have to line up.

Somebody may have pictures that will help.

It only goes back together the right way or 180* off. When you put it back together have the wheels pointing straight ahead and the steering wheel centered. It's easier, too, if you slide the column rearward, loosen three nuts that hold the column to the dash and four nuts at the inside firewall.

Thanks for that insight. I'll try it when I get more time to work on it.
