Doing 80% complete body restore (minus under-body (will come wayyyy down the road...) and prepping for paint, dyno, carpet, new glass, rims & tires. Trading most of parts & labor (paint, welding, complete running maverick (for parts), rims & tires, glass ) for details on their car/truck (run a detail shop) engine, rear end, and disc brakes coming a later time. So far 98% surface rust (very minimal) in exception of for a small section of floor pan which I will replace. Repainting the interior floors/walls to prevent further rusting. Most likely going to have it sandblasted. Would like to do a custom dash fabricated from preexisting dash (use same mounting method, different look for gauges) but we'll see may have to do later down the road. Car is going to be completely rewired, dynomat very soon. Keeping it short, blunt, its late headed to bed. Trying to upload pictures, but not allowing me too
Another photo of "before" - and soon a "after" Doing two tone paint, light silver (metal silver), and a dark charcoal silver. Also having bed liner sprayed on 4 inch's from the bottom of the car to protect from rock chips (will be painted over)
the two tone silver and dark charcoal almost sounds like my car. I dont know if I would do the bedliner on the bottom though. the paint can chip off from the bedliner just as easy as it car chip off from the metal. it just wont leave a little ding on the metal. Some colors hide the texture of the bedliner and some show it too much. if you are doing the silver on the bottom it will show all the texture.
Ryan doing opposite of your car. Silver top dark silver from body line down. And good point on the bed liner issues
exactly what I was thinking, and wanting to do. So when Im burning up tires I don't have to worry about chipping paint or regular driving. Also going to install the clear protection film on the hood, and other bits of the car that are more prone to rock chips.
A lot of northern cars came with stone guard from the factory (usually the entire rockers were covered). We use to grind it off, I never liked the look of it.
Ive seen the gravel guard on a few of my cars/trucks. It just looks like bumpy rust under the paint. And Ive still seen it chip. its just paint over a texture. it will still chip. I wouldnt ruin a nice paint on purpose with that stuff. I'd rather take my chances of a rock chip. Or have somebody run a strip of that 3m hood protector down the side of the car from the bottom to about the top of the rocker panel. Will look much better and removable.
I have the spindles, rotors and calipers to convert to discs and I'm not that far from you. They're listed in the classifieds.
