Got a surprise today. The top of the Dr side floor over the torque box was so rusted that the top of the torque box was rusted throug. So I cut the top of the torque box out and stuffed a towel soaked in Muratic acid inside, gonna leave it over night, see whats left in the morning. Not a big deal, Ill cut and weld a top on it after rust proofing the inside. Then cut and weld a patch for the floor.

I wish my knowledge/skill/know how was to the point that I could say rusted torque boxes/floor were 'no big deal'.

Well Bob I usually have to screw something up 3 times before I get it right, skills got nuthin to do with it.

This morning I took 3 globs of rusted goo and threw them in the blasting cabinet. This is what those chunks turned out to be.

I remember that maverick! I also thought about buying it. Glad it went to a good home.
If its going to be your god sons car and he's taking his date on prom night in the maverick then it better have ac or she's going to sweat off all her make-up.
Ill be keeping an eye on this project. Maybe it'll motivate me to work on mine

Rain Gutters?????? What rain Gutters???
Yupp.....I cut them off. Yes I know they are an itegral part of the roof skin and the next step is to weld a bead along the edge, then lead them smooth. Its a trick I learned from some old farts that did it to 57 Wagons way back when. I think this will give the car cleaner lines and compliment the shaved doors. Im not going to replace the boomerangs or rear trim. I think this looks better with super dark paint.

Its not going to be his car, I told him if he helped me with it he could take it to Prom, but to be honest him and I dont think the car will be ready in time. Im looking at Vintage Air for early stangs, I wouldnt want his date to look like one of the lasts scenes from "Raiders Of The Lost Ark"

Can you post a picture of what the whole side of the car looks like, from a couple of feet away? I've been thinking of doing the same thing..

Yeah Bro Ill do it tommorro. But remember its not welded and leaded yet. One of the things I kept in mind when I wanted to do this is wind. By that I mean, the front of the rain gutter creates a boundry layer of air, that moves air away from the door and window seal. So that the force of the air (Going at full speed) doesnt penatrate the seals and get inside the passenger compartment making noise, and compromise the enviroment(Heating ,cooling, rain). When I do the leading Im gonna do a subtle flair to recreate that boundry layer effect.

Also when I cut the rain gutter I compromised the spot welds that secure the roof skin to the rest of the car via the inner door and window area, hence the weld bead. Back in the day very few design engineers used wind tunnels to design body shapes on anything but Aircraft. Its gonna be alot of work.:mi scheif:
