welp the 75 car was comming along fine and was gonna start this puppy...(thats right craig i was going to start it! ) but i just put some gas in the tank and yes... it got a crack in it creating a leak! happy, happy, joy, joy! so my questions is to you guys... any good places you know that have replacment / new maverick gas tanks? i seen some online but they list them for 76 to 77 maverick.. what the heck is the differance. i know early maverick have drop in tanks. but whats the differance in a 73 or 75 to a 76-77? also any tips on pulling this sucker out, besides the usual disconnect the battery and try not to create sparks i'm all ears
From what I've found, there are no early Mav tanks in production. I've received several requests for them. I've been told that some Mustang tanks can be used with success. Just use care removing the lines and wiring to the sender. Don't get impatient with the strap bolts. It's not uncommon for older vehicle straps to be a problem removing as the bolts corrode. Often the straps themselves end up needing replaced. The biggest difference with latter tanks are in regard to emissions.
(You're talking about 'Maverick Man' here - he doe$n't repair anything. He $imply dig$ a few bills outta hi$ front pocket and buy$ replacement part$.)
when you mean early... meaning drop in tanks like 69's to 71 (or when ever they stop making them or are we talking 73 to 76 as early?
whats repair.. i only recycle.. throw out the old get the new! lol besides i saved money buying this car! now i can spend the money i saved on it and buy something else like a gas tank!. anyone wanna buy some new 18 inch 5 bolt honda rims? i need some more money... lol
Tank Differences as I've seen: 70- drop in. unique to itself. 71 to 74 -Smaller tank with taper in the rear to clear the rear valance. 75 to 77 - Larger capacity but still basically the same. The back is squared off to give extra couple of gallons. No valance to worry about. The 74-75 is a greay area in the transition period. You might find either in 74 but I believe all the 75's were the larger tank. You can interchange tanks between 71-77 as long as you use the correct straps. The sending units are interchangable too although AK has different listings. They will still work. Since these gauges are a relative measurement anyways, it dont really matter if its a few gallons off.
Tanks Dennis, you used a 60's Mustang tank with the front mounted sending unit, correct? If I ever switch it will probably be to that since it allows more exhaust clearance and is probably cheaper. Seth
