What do you think would be realistic expectations for our car in the 1/8 mile. There are a couple of local 1/8 mile tracks so we may try it out soon.
    1973 Maverick LDO (a/c removed)
    Power Steering.
    306 Small block.
1968 heads, stock. Decked just enough to true them, springs shimmed and 3 angle valve job.
    CC 268H camshaft.
Cast replacement flat tops installed backwards
    ARP rod bolts
    Melling pump, stock pan.
Pro products Cross Wind Intake (2 plane-air gap style)
    600 holley vacuum secondaries
1-5/8" x 3" collector long tube Summit headers
    stock DSII Ignition
C4 with TransGo shift kit, 1800rpm street stall converter
    2.79:1 open differntial
    235/45r17s on 17 x 9 wheels.
Stock 3 leafs in rear, stock 6 cylinder coils with 1-1/2 coils removed.
    I haven't weighed the car.
Will be adding 9" with 3.70 gears later.

I would guess low to mid 9's in the 1/8

Thanks. That is what I was thinking and if we are way off the mark then we will know we have some work to do.

I'm sure you know a taller gear w/a spool would do wonders for your 60'.

It's hard to guess how far you're going to spin (provided the 2.79's allow it).

Either way, good luck and HAVE FUN - that's the main thing.

Oh it spins if you hammer it, pretty much all the way through first gear, well sometimes. I think what we want to do is go with the 2.79, then go back with the 3.70 in there, plus I have some carb spacers and a 750 holley I'd like to try. Fun stuff!

:drive: I'm betting between 9.5 to 10.5 in the 1/8th.

You took the 3.70 OUT of the car knowing you were going to run it on the street/strip?

There really is no telling what you'll run now - if you're spinning a lot. Unless you have good meat, you're going to one-wheel-peal it half way down the track.

I'll guess an 11.XX now. (j/k) Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

No..lol. We just got the 9 inch with the 3.70. We want to take the car as is then go back after we swap rear ends and see the difference it makes. This is just a fun street car, not building it to be a drag car or even a street strip car at the moment. More of a pro-touring type car. I just think it will be fun to do some testing and tuning at the strip. See what changes really do.

You should have fun (if you don't get too frustrated when you can't hook up that is ;)).

my thinking is unless you have some good tires, you might not make the 9's. but good luck. and get a baseline. remember if you make more than 1 change at a time you won't know which makes the difference. i don't have the patience to do one change at a time.:)

I agree more with Rick...you have 25-1/2 inch tires on an open rear...with a low gear.

If you are lucky, that tall tire will hold on and not break loose, but you say it does, so you will not hook and times will suffer. Unless you figure out how to take off without breaking it loose.

I had 25" tires on an open 2.79, and a much weaker engine, and ran as low as 45mph and 18 seconds or so in the 1/8th just because each time I mashed the gas, the tires broke loose (sounded like the trans had let loose).

I think you COULD have a 9 second car, or a 13 second car in the 1/8th depending on how you apply the gas and let the tires do their job.

Well I don't expect to run a fast time right out of the box, but the idea is to establish a baseline then improve on it. To me thats the fun of taking it to the strip.
