I am assuming that everyone is a little different, but do they all need a ground wire ran on them. I was reading one of my mags and they did this swap and they ran a ground wire to the block. Is this the general rule of thumb?
I have put 1 wires on everything from cars and trucks to road graders and boats, and have never needed an extra ground wire. Eric
I was trying to do a 3 wire with a larger alternator and I failed because of the case size. The 1 wire seems to be the way to go and most are grounded to the engine block. If you have the November issue of Mustang & Fords, they have a pictorial install of a 1 wire conversion 130 amp alternator. I intend to go with this one if the case is the same size as our's are.
Wes, give Rick Harmon a call at PA Performance 1-877-471-8010 http://www.pa-performance.com/ I purchased an alternator from him in August. He is great to deal with. Their theory is there is really no such thing as a one wire alternator for a Ford. They utilize an additional 12v switched wire to turn on the regulator. Most one wire alternators require the engine to be revved up in order to turn on the regulator.
Well....hmmmm wonder why they grounded theirs? Mine is relocated and it is held down by aluminum motor plate and a chrome brace.....just wondering. Thaks for all the input.
John, I like how you have it mounted down low!! Did you ever have it tested to see if it's putting out power?? They do make a rebuild kit that will up the amperage........
