There was a great looking 71 (?) red Grabber at L.A. County Raceway today running the Classic series. Didn't get the guys name. Wonder if he is on this board. Car would have been running 9's at sea level. LACR is at 2500 ft and it was close to 100 degrees today.

    Hey Bob,

I have seen that quick nice looking Maverick at LACR several times. It's red, right? I'm just curious if you are the same guy who used to be the announcer at some of the of NDRA and Muscle car races at LACR and Bakersfield?I race a 351W powered '62 Falcon which used to be white with a yellow top but is all white now. It is a genuine numbers matching car,the front license matches the back.Is this familiar to you?

    Hi Jim,

Yep, thats me. I was the announcer at LACR from 1977-97. I still announce, but with Goodguys and the NHRA Hot Rod Reunions. I got tired of the every week end at Bernie's. I needed a break. I started with Goodguys in '93 and I've done the last 5 Hot Rod Reunions in B'field. I remember your Falcon and you always said Number's Matching on your tech card.

The Maverick was the bright Red one. I had my Grabber Blue Mave there. I was running with the Road Kings and the Falcon Club. It was the first time back to LACR since my kid stopped driving his Jr. Dragster about 3 years ago.

    Nice hearing from you.

    Hey Bob,

Cool,I thought that was you. Good thing my wife's uncle gave me a 66,000 original miles '72 Comet or I would have never found you on this site.

If you want to substantially reduce your Maverick's 20 second E.T.s just take it out to Irwindales's 1/8 mile drag strip. I wasn't too sure about the 1/8 but it turned out to be just as much fun as 1/4 mile. My 289 Morris likes it just fine.It has run a best of 6.83@99.7,just can't get that 100 in the 1/8.

    Hi Jim,
I've been to Irwindale. Thought I had seen your car there or was that at one of the Goodguys events recently? I LOVE that Morris. When I was in school I had a Morris woody. What are ya running in it?

    Hey Bob,

The Morris is running a 289/C4/9inch.It's all home build using mostly stock front suspension including the huge 7 inch drum brakes and a rear subframe welded in using the stock leafs. Not too sure it's safe to post this kind of info on this Maverick/Comet board but at least it is Ford powered.
