I am interested in putting 15" wheels on my 74 Maverick. I know nothing about wheels. I've seen other numbers besides the 15" number and talk of spacers. I'm clueless....what should I get?

The size of the rim isn't as important as the backspacing. The backspacing is where you get into trouble, until you get into the 18-22" range. Which I HOPE you don't plan on doing!!!

The thread above should keep you in a safe range.

    Never!!

I'll never put "wagon wheels" on my Maverick...lol
So if I find some wheels that say 15x7, what is the "7"? Will they fit?

    See I told you I was clueless...lol

    7 is the width.

7 is the width of the rim, 15 is the height. But still worthless without knowing what the backspace is.

The backspace is the distance from the inside rim face to the area where the bolted area comes in contact with the hub.

The more backspacing, the further out the rims sit. So, backspacing determines where the rims sit in relation to the fenders.

This should clarify how the width measurement is made.

Ok, I just want the car to look cool

I don't want tires sticking out two feet past the fender. I just wanted to buy some nice looking wheels off the shelf. And I wanted the car to sit just a little higher off the ground. No expensive custom rims. What should I look for?
