Im sure somebodys done it.....are there any things I might need to know? I had the torque thrust style wheel in mind. Please fill me in. thanks.
Pay attention to what your tire shop tells you. If you can it always best to buy the tires and wheels from the same place. Keeps problems from being blamed on either. I have 17" Torque Thrusts on mine, basically a no brainer. Dan
So Dan, you just put them on and that was it? i kind of planned on buying like newer mustang wheels out of a "mustangs and fast fords" magazine or whatever...you can get the tire and wheel kits...like pull offs or something for about $1200 or so. I saw a hot rod issue a couple years back with a maverick that had 17s and they ended up cutting the wheel opening bigger with a plasma cutter. I was just curious if all that work was really nesessary. I have a 69 1/2 that i just bought (with 4 lugs) im gonna change over to 5 lug obviously. anyways...thanks again!
FOMOCO73 the car your talking about is tammy hackmans car posted is a pic below of the car (left). there is a bit more to do to get those late model wheels on a maverick. but if i told you tammy would kill me i have 17's and 18's on mine (also posted below) they will fit. but these of course are not a late model offset so they are no brainers like dan said. just bolt right on if you want your car as low as mine you'll have to do with a bit of fender mods... make sure your rear offset is correct if you go this way with the old school torque thrust in 17s.
I have seen spacers advertised in the classic Mustang Magazines that allow late model offset rims to be used on the early Mustangs, these may work. The text on Tammy Hackmann's car said they made their own spacers. http://www.hotrod.com/roadtests/67119/index1.html http://www.hotrod.com/roadtests/67119/index.html http://www.hotrod.com/roadtests/67119/index2.html
