What do you guys use for windshield wipers? All the new ones are black and the arms(Factory) are silver(metal). Looks like crap. Are there inserts available for the bare metal blade assembly?

I don't know how you figure it "looks like crap".
I run black wiper blades, and I had the arms powder-coated black.

There are other options besides painting ..
Clean them well first, then BUFF with a good wheel and some rogue . This brings out the shine and the rubber inserts
already have a shiny metal part. It took me about 30 minutes for both arms and the change is dramatic.
