Has the car run since you got it? Did you do anything to car? Have you checked timing and firing order? Where in Pittsburgh are you? Did I asked enough questions?
Yea, it definately sounds like the timing chain, or the distributor is a notch out, or the distributor is way out, or crossed plug wires. Have you worked on the car, or did you just get it?
The car has been sitting for the past 9 years. Prior to that the car was gone over completely and running good. I drained the gas, changed the points/condenser/rotor/cap/plugs and wires. I didn't think the timing would be off as it was running fine when it was parked 9 years ago. I was thinking about changing the carburetor ?
Now don't holler at me,,, double-check your spark plug wires for proper firing order. It's easy to mess up. Also, when redone 9 years ago, did they change the cam? May be different firing order. Timing chain if original, nylon gears got brittle and broke, so gotta do some more checking. Are you near Springdale (Harmarville)?
I live in O'Hara but the car is in Etna. I will try your suggestions and let you know how it turns out. Thanks very much!
You may want to check the fuel bolw any crud and very old gas that sits thier turns like varnish . This should be cleanned out with carb sray.
Ummm, I don't know who hacked into my account, "65comet" but just to let you all know I did not post this thread and unfortunatly I don't own a 71 Maverick and I do not live in Pittsburg.
65comet (Mark Sherman) hit a snag last week where he no longer could log on the forum. He emailed me asking me to contact Stefan to see if he could fix the problem for him. Apparently, Stefan fixed the problem but 65comet got latched to someone's else's profile that actually owns a 71 Maverick, lives in Pittsburgh and started this thread. Mark's home was changed in this "wrong" profile and now says Erie, Colorado but yesterday it said Pittsburgh. Mark's right - he didn't start this thread. This is "big time" messed up
