Hi I'm new to this kinda thing. I loved working on my 1976 ford Granada with my dad back in the day & now have acquired a 1974 Comet 4door. My husband doesn't know much about cars other than how to drive them & take them in to get the fluids changed. I'm more the car whisperer. So when I drive the Comet, I noticea lot is "sway" or slack in steering and the front end when I turn to take a corner or just drive forward in general. I haven't worked on cars in years but I feel that it could be a warped sway bar, loose tension bars or old rack and pinion/bushings issue? I appreciate your help & patience
Welcome from GA If your car has power steering it will give you that sensation, after driving some of the later front wheel drive cars. Unless it has been modified; it will not have a rack & pinion. Have your shocks checked, and front end checked. It could be something minor. There are a lot of people on this site that can help you.
Swaybars don't "warp" unless subjected to some type of collision damage. A car that old most likely needs new springs, shocks, sway-bar bushings, and Upper & lower ball-joints, and steering components. The steering box may need adjustment as well. Any competent alignment shop can inspect the suspension & steering components and tell you what you need.
