I've been assured by parts people that there is no "housing" for the air cleaner on the 1975 FORD Maverick 302 V8 with 2bbl carburetor. That leaves me wondering how the air cleaner for this engine was installed....

I've been asking, because the "housing", or whatever it should be called, which is presently installed on the
1975 FORD Maverick 302 V8 engine I'm working with is apparently not what should be on it. And I'm unable to install an air filter without buying a short one and shimming it with foam.

It would help if I understood what the stock original equipment arrangement for the air cleaner on this engine was, and whether the parts to attach it to the engine and carburetor are obtainable. Photo's would be most welcome.

    Thanks for your help.

    :Welcome: Jim,

Your parts guy doesn't have a clue. All of these cars came from the factory with a steel air cleaner housing. They varied in size and shape, depending on year, emissions controls and engine size. If you need one, many parts guys (including me) should have one. Just post a wanted ad in the classifieds section.

Here is a picture of a stock air cleaner set up. It is a 250 I6 so the 302 would be a little different, but it will give you the idea what they looked like in general.

    :)

    Thank you!

Yeah! That looks more like what I'd expect. Now to find one. I'll try the classifieds as you say. Thanks very very much.:thumbs2:

Now I am wondering how to get a part number. I have a parts diagram image for the Air Cleaner and Related Parts 1975 F100 8 Cyl. 302 engine. And here is one for the 1969 to 1972 pickups. http://www.fordification.com/tech/images/schematics/aircleaner04.jpg

But I've not been able to find one for the 1975 Maverick engine.

The one on the engine now looks like it came from a late 1970s vintage Mustang - a light aluminum, pretty bent up, version of this one: http://assets.hemmings.com/story_image/41140-500-0.jpg?rev=1
And it needs to be replaced.

Are you trying to put this engine in another car?

I ask because that may open up some options for you.

I do have a complete air cleaner assy removed from a 73 maverick, 302, 2v, if you're interested.

This '75 302 engine is in a 1970 F100 pickup truck I bought as is, and put back into service. It has an air cleaner housing on it that - judging from the aluminum construction and housing appearance - came from a late 70's ford Mustang; I hope to replace it with OE stock air cleaner and related parts for the 75 Maverick.

If the 75 and 73 parts are the same, then the "complete air cleaner assy removed from a 73 maverick, 302.." noted by Rayzorsharp would work. message price to me?

You ought to have plenty of room for it in that pickup. :thumbs2:
