My 4 door base model 76 Comet automatic, I6 200 engine (long gone, but seeking to re-create) had the steering wheel like in this image: Many of the cars I see online this other type with the straight-across spokes and the horn button in the middle what would have determined which cars came with what ? Thanks
My 1976 had the plain jane 2-spoke (tan in your picture above). many I have parted out also had the same. Not sure what determined which wheel it had. I suspect it was the interior choice.
Check this out .... that same wheel may have come in Ford Broncos. Pretty sure I have seen them. The link seems to indicate them OK until 77, and a change later. Probably an external horn button on the later ones. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1007353-steering-wheel-compatible-2.html
Clarification: I have the '72 Comet with the steering wheel in the first picture (blue one). Is this a considered a "deluxe" or "standard" steering wheel.
That would be the sportier steering wheel so you can call it the deluxe model, it is different than the one in the first pic as the spokes are straight out without the angled down parts. Wheel style changed in 75
Chlorin8ed, Your same steering wheel came in Torinos of the era, and perhaps Galaxie/LTD. The new horn switch (actually a long plastic bar) can be swapped in under your cover. I seem to recall doing that to my 71 Torino.
