Hey, I'm set with a V8 from a Ford LTD complete with c4 auto trans. Any big complications or snags with putting it into a '72 Maverick currently with a stock original inline 6 and auto trans? Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated. I searched, and understand that I need a crossmember from a v8 maverick...anything else?

Are there any convenient spots online that sell any of these items, or would ebay/forums be the best?

And you'll also need a front sump oil pan and matching pickup tube. Then need to install a dipstick tube in the timing cover. And if that 82 Vic pan has the dipstick tube in the pan, don't toss it. The V8 Ranger guys need it to swap in early 302's into Rangers. That 82 will also have a C-5 trasnmission, not a C-4.

Will the c5 transmission bolt into the maverick using the maverick v8 kickdown linkage?

Probly not as the C5 bell is about an inch deeper, moving the main case backwards by that amount. Might be a problem with the crossmember fit too, but not 100% on that.

you dont NEED a bigger radiator, your 6 cylinder one will work but gets a little hot over 75 mph.

What all would be needed to keep this c5? Custom kickdown linkage and crossmember?

You can leave the kickdown off. As for the crossmember, that's something you'll just have to wait and see. They've got slots in the X member for the mount bolts, you may just need to lengthen them to fit. I believe the mount also has oversize holes in the top that can also be used to adjust the fit as well. One inch isn't a whole lot of difference to make up for, just wanted you to be aware of it.

Another random query: The LTD oil sump seems to be not quite rear sump, not quite front sump...but both. It's mainly front sump with a little section at the back too. Will this fit the Maverick? Or do I need a straight up front sump?

You need the front sump. The LTD pan is the so called Fox body dual sump pan. And if it's got the dipstick provision in the pan, don't toss it, this is the pan the V8 Ranger guys need to swap early 289/302's into a Ranger

The dipstick provision is on the block, down near the pan. I need to block this hole up, as it's unrelated to whatever I will need to do for the dipstick?

i run a stock inline 6 radiator in mine with a 302 .030 over. never ever runs hot at all. even when it 90 outside with high humidity. you just have to run a decent enough fan blade to pull some air. i run a plastic flex-a-lite fan on mine. the tin ones don't do enough to even bother. you can pck up the plastic ones pretty cheap.
