ive been thing of doing a 2bbl swap on my 250 i6 and have read the tech article about it. is it worth it? have you done it?
I've been thinking about it....with a Motorcraft 2100. They are one of the best carbs ever imo as far as dependability goes.
I think with the 250 hood clearance is tight. I put a Pinto type 2bbl on my old 300 in my '75 F100. It idles much smoother and the extra "kick" is similiar to a 4 bbl kick on a v8. I like it, but it seems to use more gas than the old 1 bbl.
i think there is a link on the tech article, i was also going to put a header from classic inlines and an alloy dress up pack, need to sell my go kart first though....
I did it a few years back on my 65 Falcon with a 200. I swapped a Duraspark dizzy at the same time. It was the best thing I did to that car. Better throttle response, mileage, and power. I'm getting ready to do it again on another Falcon 6. The adapter was $45 from Summit.
This is the adapter I was thinking about: http://classicinlines.com/proddetail.asp?prod=FSP%2D200%2DHCA%2DD It looks like my carb guy have screwed me out of my 3 Carter YF carburetors so I gotta atart thinking about a plan B.
If you want to get the most from your two barrel swap use a 2Bbl to 2 Bbl adapter and have the manifold cut to the same oval opening as the adapter. Putting a 2Bbl on and keeping the round hole in the manifold won't increase the flow much at all. Try here: http://www.jegs.com/i/Trans+Dapt/969/2086/10002/-1
You might as well just put a single barrel on it then - the hole in the manifold can only flow so much air and putting a larger carb on it is the same as running a four barrel carb on a two barrel manifold.
what if i didnt cut the manifold and just use the adapter (i know your going to tell that thats just like running a 1bbl) but could it possible work?
