If someone were to order a new mustang, would he be able to order it w/ out power steering and a/c in order to free up the parasitic loss from these components as well as knock the price down a bit (as well as add to the my maverick's feel for the road... you know the wonderful hit-a-pot-hole-and-break-your-wrist" feel :D )

    thanx fer yer time,
    Kyle

I would say it is almost impossible to get a new car (except for a real tiny one) without power steering. I think you can get one without AC....but I don't know for sure.

I dont know about your area, but they charge extra here if you buy a new car without a/c. It's usually about $200 more.

Power steering and AC have become pretty efficient, much more than in the Maverick era.

If you were able to order without, and I doubt for a number of reasons Ford would offer them this way, you would take a hit on resale.

PS, PB A/C and even power locks and windows have pretty much become standard equipment. Their efficiency as systems are in a completely different league than the Maverick era. You shouldn't even think of them in the same terms.

Power steering is just about standard on most all cars. I don't think any mustangs would come without it. You can get cars without A/C. There isn't much use for A/C in places like Alaska, Seattle, and other cooler areas.

For $78k (maybe less) you can get a Mustang Cobra R from the factory without a/c:

    See the link here.

"The retail price of this monster is $54,000. However, dealers have sold this car for far beyond that. Since only 300 were made, The L.O.A. price added to this car.(Lack of Availability) has been reported to be as high as $24,000 dollars, bringing the price up to $78,000. That hurts."

while it would be cool to be able to order up a new stang without the a/c pwr steering, etc, you have to realize, it is just that.

You won't likely own this car for the next 25 years, so down the line, you will be trying to sell it and people will be saying, what, no power steering, what in hell??

I agree with everyone else, the losses on newer cars are so minimal, it doesn't make it worth it to butcher it up.

If you are looking for a newer injected type of car to mod, and be able to remove pwr steering/a/c, etc, I would suggest a Fox body mustang from 86-93, can be had for nothing, and you can do much more with cheaper.

I don't know for sure if you could or not. I would imagine that if you COULD, it would cost more than usual to have one specially made for you. I personally like manual steering as it is more sensitive to the road. What you COULD do if you really wanted is to order a Flaming River steering rack which is made to be light and not use power steering. Then you'd have all the P/S stuff to swap back on later if you have to sell it.

I disagree with most of you. I'd order one without AC and PS in a heartbeat. Think how rare it would be. Any Mustang with unusal options won't be too hard to sell. And the efficiency might be good, but removal of those two options would probably be 250 lbs.
