The 2016 Ford Mustang is featured in the Feb 2016 edition of Road & Track. Apparently it's 32 valve DOHC 5.0 engine makes 435 SAE net HP. It's quarter mile time was 13.2 sec. It weighs 3810 lbs. With a 200 lb driver resulting in a weight of 4010 lbs, the HP calculator came up with 340 rear wheel HP.

Now, if it raced a Maverick, which weighed 2800 lbs and maybe 3000 lbs with the driver, it would only have to produce 260 real wheel HP to pull off a 13.2 quarter mile time. That's why Mavericks are cool. With upgrades to the heads, cam, carb and exhaust, you can blow off a 2016 Mustang GT.

And you won't see your car's twin at every intersection :)

What if took the engine from the Mustang and put it in the Maverick, then you would have the best of both.
