Happy Friday Gentlemen. I recently picked up a 76 Maverick 2dr with the stock 250 and auto trans. As much as I'd like to drop in a screaming 302, I'm kinda diggin on the simplicity of the little 6 banger. Also by sticking with the motor I've got, I'll be able to spend more time and money on the cosmetic side of the project. All that being said, I would still like a bit more muscle under the hood. What are some simple (bang for the buck) upgrades available for my 250? Keep in mind, I'm not heading to the track any time soon. Just tooling around town Showing off.
    Thanks

Timing is a big thing for a 6 cylinder, the more they have the better they run (without going overboard)....

and i dunno how far u wanna go but you can go as far as a 2v carb conversion, header, cam, getting a D7 or later model head (they flow better) and/or milling your head down for more compression would deff help

check out fordsix.com for ALOT of info on them

    Check out www.fordsix.com and www.classicinlines.com

In the long run you'll spend more money on the inline but you can build something that turns head when you open the hood. The low end torque produced with a nice setup will launch you quicker than a lot of pretty decent v-8's out there---winning that match just depends on how far down the finish line is.

I'm a big fan of Ford's inlines because they're practically bulletproof and easy to work on.

The best "budget" gains are to remove the head, have it milled .030" to .050" A good machinist will measure it and let you know how far to go. Mill the intake log (cast in the head) flat to accept a 2 x 2 adapter and have the hole milled to fit the adapter then mount a Ford 2100 on it. Cam with 214* duration at .050" and .450 - .480" lift (at valve), headers and free-flowing exhaust (2 1/2" - 3" single will be fine. Put in a duraspark distributor and have it recurved for quicker timing advance.

Are you talking about milling the intake manifold completely off? or just making an adapter for another carb?

You just mill it down to accept the adapter. You dont take off the entire manifold.

No. Looks to be a 200. It's either had the intake milled completely off or it's an aussie/aftermarket head.

It's a 200 with an aussie head! I believe they're Weber or Solex downdraft carbs! I really don't know that much about it as the photo came from either Fordsix.com or Inlinesix.com. I just thought it was cool and saved it! The intake looks like a very nicely done home custom fabrication! I'll try and find out more about it!:)
@maverick75,I'd LOVE to find those headers too! So far no luck! I'm wondering if this is an Aussie setup? I noticed the "pollution" ports on the headers. I don't know if they have pollution laws over there!

www.classicinlines.com sells just about everything you might need to improve the performance of the ford inline 6...plus they can make recommendations and really know alot about these little motors. They also provide the service of milling the intake for a 2 bbl carb. :thumbs2:
